The playing´s fine, but the voice is horrible. Even Dave Matthews could do better than that.

Imo the song crumbles around the 4:00 mark... just when Adams takes the helm.

Im surprised how Isbell struggled with it. He's a good singer.
It goes to show the power Jagger had in his prime. It's very hard for anyone (including today's Jagger) to match the powerhouse of that lead vocal.

I'm a huge fan of Isbell and Adams (especially Isbell - the guy's a phenomenal guitarist and writer, I get a real Stones vibe from his stuff) but I thought the performance was pretty underwhelming to be honest. Stones stuff is difficult to cover well, especially guitar wise as Keith's parts may be simple but it's tough to capture the same attitude and vibe he brings to his playing. "Sway" is probably my favourite Stones song though so maybe I'm being too critical?

It seems it's a tough song to pull of even for the Stones, although I love the version on "Sticky Fingers Live" from last year.

Nothing will ever touch the genius original

Wow, I'd almost forgotten what a great song Sway really is. I can't believe it's nearly 10 years ago I saw it live in London.
I just listened to the version from The Fonda Theatre last year and I was surprised by the fine performance. Great stuff.

Whoops, forgot that Mick (Jagger) plays rhythm on the original (according to the interwebs anyway). I was thinking of the live versions. Plus, regarding covers in general often I find that vibe of Keith's is sorely lacking.

Maybe they're not trying to sound like the original? winking smiley Not all covers are slavish copies (which is a tribute to the original).

how about some props for covering a great song? it's not like jason isbell and ryan adams are fronting some hack bar band. of course it not's going to sound like the original. these guys had the guts (and the chops) to get out of their comfort zone and played homage to the Stones. get over it.

No, he only sings on it.

A good version, imo, although Isbell has a completely different voice than Mick. It sounds a bit too sweet and too country.

I think it's a good version too. Isbell has done 'Sway' for years. They are great

together, Adams and Isbell.

I meant in my earlier post, when it comes to playing Sway, even the Stones' versions haven't captured the feel of the original ..glad they did it, though..

The full band never did Sway together in the studio. That, and the fact that they waited 24 years to try it out live, might have made it difficult for them to pull it off properly smiling smiley

I heard three very good versions, though, outside of Telenor Arena in Oslo in 2014. At least they sounded very good, until Keith fvcked it up, he he smiling smiley

2006 at Foxboro the Stones played Sway and knocked it out of the park .Kudos to Mr.Rocking Ronnie Wood who played his fanny off on the fill on a dark midnight blue Gibson SG .Ronnie really nailed the vibe on that one !!!

Great version! Why say it is bad because it isn't slavishly loyal to the original. I found it very well done, great vocals, and great instrumental performance. Thanks for sharing that nugget!

I like it when artists pay tribute to The Greatest Rock 'n Roll Band in the World.
And yeah, no one ever (yes: NO one and EVER) managed to come close to the original version
of this beautiful song that's on Sticky Fingers.

Just as long as the guitar plays, let it steal your heart away

The Stones did a cover version of this song in Austin 2006 which was a glorious mess...at one point I'm pretty sure they were doing an unintended medley of 4 different Stones cover songs...go watch the video
