You must be deaf...and probably a fan since 2002... cool smiley

I am a fan since 1978 and listening to the Stones since 1964 (born that year).

YOU GOT ME ROCKING GOT ME ROCKING from day one I heard it in 1994!

I also played the slow early version (12 minutes or so) to death. ROCKING SLOW!
Feel it GROW (spinning smiley sticking its tongue out...).

The lyrics are only so...so, but the musictrack is superb.
The instrumental version from VOODOO STEW.... and the HEY HEY HEY YOU GOT ME ROCKING chorus without the verses would have made it a complete hit!

I still defend this song to my fellow Stonesfriends.

There must be some truth in that!

That's what I always thought. You're a tourist Dandy! Nice of you to confess without hesitation though! We didn't have to call the Spanish Inquisition this time around...

Stoneage,you nailed it.
I was just making fun refering to the SF Live thread...DP is a true gentleman.
At least I guess so.
And one of the reasons I regularly read this board.

By the way...anyone else appreciates the Violent Femmes album "The Blind Leading the Naked" ?

Back on topic...thanks drew for the link.
I got that YGMR remix somewhere but have been
too lazy to dig it out...

The only remixes I really like are the Harlem Shuffle ones...
Extended mixes is a different point,Miss You,Undercover and Feel On Baby are really great...

Just saying, no matter one's opinion of YGMR, Dandy is one of the most knowledgable Stones fans ever.

Good rocking tune. I like it except for the opening lyric......."I was a butcher cutting up meat", turns me off a bit, I don't know why. Simple, hard rocking Keith riff with a heck of a hook. Sometimes I'll hum the opening guitar riff because it sticks in my head and sounds so good and twangy on his Telecaster.

Why is the length of a song included in the liner notes but not the time spent working on it? It would make rating those 90s songs much easier. For example: You Got Me Rocking (3:34, Mick knocked off the lyrics in about 15 minutes and Keith has been playing that riff since ‘75). Ok, that explains a lot. So they got it down in about 20 minutes and then went shopping...in which case it’s not bad in a half-assed kind of way. But without knowing how much/little time they spent working on it I’d be tempted to call it dreadful. You see what I mean?

They probably spent quite some time making that riff sound like it does on the album. The "mystery guitar" gives it more punch and grit than it ever had in concert, imo.

Not impressed with the lyrics (yes, the butcher is a turnoff for me too) but I love those snarly guitars live, and they obviously just find it the perfect thing to play early in the show to get the fingers working and put themselves in the mood.

Stones by numbers. "Hey Keith, play a scratchy intro, put a couple of simple riffs on top, I'll sing 'hey hey'...a lot... And we'll see how we go", says Mick.

Plodding, formulaic... Fail.

Yes, when they needed to refind themselves after two not so good albums, to me this is one of two songs that are Stones by numbers on its album. Almost by deliberate method. No direct failure, but really a little boring.

Somewhat better live, though, on occasions.

It's the sound of the Stones trying to conjure up something... with mixed results. The LP version cooks enough but it's just sort of there. It is somewhat amusing lyrically. Since VOODOO is all over the place it fits the album but it's really not very good.

The version on NO SECURITY is a thousand times better than the LP version.

i kind of agree in that I never liked the LP version...the lyrics bug me more. thumbs down

Keith totally nicked it, really the whole thing but the 'riff', from playing Somethin' Else the year before, which you can hear here at about 2:22.

Sparks is awful I reckon. It sounds, I don't know, like it's in the wrong key or something. I go wild is a ripper.

Not at all. Some songs that have little time spent click right away and work perfectly. Other songs can take days/hours until they click. Similarly songs that don't click can also be done quickly or take days. Time is no relation to quality of a song, imo.

Sparks Will Fly is one of the best tracks on VL. I loved it from the start. Some VL-tracks took a long time to grow on me, some never did. I think Sparks is better than YGMR and I Go Wild.

Sparks Will Fly could easily fit on DIRTY WORK, that's how awful it is.

Now it makes sense why HMS thinks it's "one of the best tracks on VL".

If it came on the radio I liked it faute de mieux, sort of like Dance Little Sister, but it's grown on me. Especially since the Stones last Anaheim show when Keith played the main riff 30 feet away from me.
