Just testing out how far you can get with a highly personal remark. I discovered The Doors in 1975. They were my band.

nothing wrong with honest dismissal.

i respect elton john as a musician, hes been around a long time, and been succesfull, although his music isnt really for me,give or take the odd song. he has done more for music than many of todays so called stars.

queen i like very much, although a lot of their songs dont interest me, the ones that do are superb. not in the stones league but well worth their place in music fame.

Both Elton & Queen has several songs that I like a lot (thinking specifically of Crazy Little Thing Called Love ... my favorite Queen song!), but overall I agree, neither was ever high on my band favorites list.

For ones I never really liked, that people seem to love ... my tops are Bruce Springsteen and Billy Joel. Especially BJ, I can't stand his singing voice, if you call it singing (mostly he is just talking, it seems to me).

Early Elton John - excellent - Tumbleweed Connection, Don't Shoot Me, Madman. Saw him live once.

Queen I never bought any albums since I went to the all the shows when they came to town. I remember that the stage floor was made out of wood. Golden Age of concerts.

Queen - saw them in the 1970's with support act Thin Lizzy. Great show. My favourite song of their's is probably 'Now I'm Here.' Always liked the story of how Brian May made his guitar out of wood from an old fireplace.

Early Elton has lots of good music, up until and including 'Rock Of The Westies.'

I never liked Queen. They were always too pompous for me.

I like Elton John. He (and Bernie Taupin) wrote some excellent songs.

I like Elton's early music, good songs. I never really dug him as performer just liked some of the songs.

I was never a Queen follower, but liked a few songs like One Vision, but man, when they played Wembley and hit the stage it was ELECTRIC X 1000!

Queen - vastly, vastly overrated. Mostly did silly songs.

Elton - his first album is his best

Tiny Dancer and Levon two of EJ's finest.

Never could stand Queen.

I love Elton's seventies work. Since then he has not been good in my opinion. I like a few Queen songs but overall not my cup of tea. Love Freddie's voice and they were amazing at Live Aid. Bohemian Rhapsody is the one "classic" song that I think is complete garbage!

I understand that back in the day, you could buy a record of all the current hits but not by the original artists so much. And I don't think Elton was as big of an artist when he did one of those. I got the CD in the cheap CDs, cutouts area.

This is from 1969-70, Elton does some songs from back then, very entertaining. It has been released under a few different names.

He does on mine, songs like "My Baby Loves Love", original White Plains, "Spirit in the Sky", original Norman Greenbaum, "Travellin' Band", CCR which some have said tongue in cheek, does not really work, he does "Yellow River" originally by Christie. Also Badfinger's "Come and Get It" and a song called "Lady D'Arbanville" which must have primarily been a hit in the UK, I'm not that familiar with it.

But thoroughly enjoyable to hear his takes on these and other hit songs back then.

I agree 100%. Although Queen's song Sheer Heart Attack floats my boat.

I can very easily do without EJ & Queen. But I have to admit there are certain songs I like,

EJ:
Captain Jack
Its Still R n R To Me
Allentown
Uptown Girl
Miami 2017
... and his live version of Candle In The Wind for Lady Di is touching.

Queen - a musical nightmare in the 80s but I like
Another One Bites The Dust
Under Pressure
One Vision
Crazy Little Thing Called Love
Dont Stop Me Now
I Want It All

It has surprised me that Elton John was making songs as early as 1969, but he was no hippie, and no singer/songwriter like James Taylor/Carole King/Joni Mitchell, who were a lot about "caring" (what`s going on in the society and all that).

Together with David Bowie, he was waiting in the wings to take over (in popularity) when we were well into the 70s, representing a new generation of performers together with Queen.

This is a joke surely, we aren't talking about Billy Joel.

My other prime '70s band would be Mott the Hoople; some would say if one likes the Stones they might like Mott the Hoople. For whatever reasoning, I enjoy them.

1969? He wrote this when he was a member of Bluesology in 1965!
