Is Jagger's coolness a forced trademark?
Posted by: The Joker ()
Date: July 4, 2016 12:42

He is so cool sometimes.. Under total pressure from the mob, the press, or the tax office...

Maybe he took lecture to be so cool, with a coach of coolness.. Or he taught himself the art of cool, looking at the mirror...

Drugs can help too..

Or maybe, maybe, he is just a natural....

As a bonus, please remember your favorite moments of Mick's coolness

He's a public person since 1963. Enough time to get used to it.

A natural cool cat indeed!

He hides behind his coolness. It is his shield.

Keith is, btw, ten times cooler. But the coolest cat of the gang is CHARLIE.

Must be a very old interview. Mick has stopped eating a very long time ago. He´s running instead of eating.

What's the definition of 'Cool'?
Dangling a cigarette out of the corner of your mouth used to epitomize coolness, especially if you were a good looking French male.
I think times have moved on, however.
Keith, if you crossed him would probably be anything but cool.
Charlie, yes.

oh yeah , i think Mr. Jagger came out of the womb ready and cool .

I think he has an innate cool. It's different than Keith's 'cool' -
Mick has a general disdain for people, can see through bullshit and phoniness...and he has a sneering manner toward people he disrespects.
Not so much anymore, but when you watch those old Jagger interviews, its very much his disdainful arrogance that defined that Stones attitude in those days. Not Keith.

its easy to be cool when you have loads of money.

if all stones members became potless and had to do a real job for a living they would lose all cool very quickly.

I think he's just got "front man syndrome".

In his job, you need to be a bit cocky.

Simple as that.

She seems to glow brilliantly white
And her hair seems to shine in the night
With her feet unbelievably light
And her teeth ready, sharpened to bite

She's so respected
Cool, calm, collected

When I think of cool actors or musicians I think of people like Frank Sinatra and, maybe, Johnny Cash. Certainly not Sir Michael. I agree he's very smart, conscious and has some panache.
But cool.... I don't think so. Maybe 30 years ago...

Very true stupidguy2.... people often forget that.

Keith´s coolness is a "I dont give a shit"-coolness.
Mick´s coolness is a "I´ve got everything under control"-coolness.
Charlie´s coolness is just coolness.

Frank Sinatra wasnt cool at all. He tried to commit suicide at least two or three times, he was friends with Richard Nixon, how cool is that. He suffered from manic depression and was a drunkard, all his coolness can be found in a bottle of Jack Daniels.

Maybe so, HMS. It doesn't change anything for me though. I still think of him as cool.

Interesting question. If someone could post an interview of Mick losing his rag, I'd be happy to see that.

Mick (Taylor)'s coolness is a "Just keep staring at the guitar and play"-coolness.
Ronnie's coolness is a "Be the peace keeper"-coolness.

Natural sangfroid.

"I loved the way he didn't seem to care a hoot what people though of him." — Jerry Hall on Mick in My Life in Pictures

Werner Herzog in his memoir Conquest of the Useless said that—in the Ecuadorian jungle—he and Mick had to walk through mud that came up to their knees and it was beyond tedious as they sank and pulled their legs with each step...and Mick laughed the whole time.

Keith's coolness is warm. Mick's is cold. At least this is the impression.

I agree. Mick's cool seems to be a way of keeping distance while Keith's seems to be a way of lessening it. I'd love to see what Mick is like in real life though because I'm sure he occasionally loses his temper when things aren't done the way he wants them to be. I think he is cool now simply because he is Mick Jagger, no more need to prove himself. I feel like Keith still plays up to his reputation a bit which is amusing but I like him better when he is being himself and talking about things like his lemon trees.

If I think this through, then I first have to ask myself "what is cool?"

If we use the argument that much of Sinatra's coolness could be found in a bottle, then I think much of that applies to Keith. Yet - later on we learned that there is a great humanity at the core of Keith, which has ALWAYS been there, and shines through it all. He wants to make people feel at ease, close, he laughs a lot - so yes, he is cool because he is a warm human being.

Jagger on other hand seems born with natural cockiness, superiority, an alpha male. Back in the days of '62, ;63 in interviews while Keith was still hiding behind him, and Brian was rambling on, Jagger was already cocksure of himself.
There is IMO no way Jagger could EVER do, have done what he does on stage without being ultra cool, and knowing he was.
IMO that is cool - knowing you are cool.

Nailed it.
That's what gave early Stones that edge. We forget how aloof and sneering and sarcastic he was and how that helped define the Stones' bad boy persona. Keith had the rebel thing, the clothes, drugs etc...but he was quiet, shy. Mick, while he can seem shy and soft-spoken in person, was this other larger-than-life persona in public and on stage...Jumping Jack Flash, Monkey Man etc..

Mick Jagger is the archetype of cool...smoking smiley

I like this word and its meaning..Archetype:The original pattern or model of which all things of the same type are representations or copies
