OT - The loss of the world's biggest R&B fan, my mother
Posted by: Mongoose ()
Date: July 3, 2016 22:54

My mom passed away on Friday, at the age of 85, from complications of leukemia.

I wanted to give a shout out in memory of her, because if it were not for my mom, it would have taken me a lot more time to discover:

Ray Charles, Sam & Dave, Otis Redding, James Brown, Joe Tex, Wilson Pickett, Arthur Conley, Lee Dorsey, Junior Walker, the Ikettes, and many more Motown and Stax/Volt stars.

She was a piano teacher, always supported anything I did with music (degree, bands, all of it), and loved to dance around the room to her music. When I was a kid, she always found a dollar somewhere for me to go out and buy a 45 record.

After a lot of pain, she is finally free.

Thanks, mom, for everything.

Aw Mongoose, I'm so sorry for your loss. But it's good that your mom had a long life filled with music and she was able to pass that gift along to you. Stay strong.

Mongoose, your mother raised a good child!

And she had wonderful taste in music...I play Ray Charles most every day
and I played it for my mother, too.

All best to you.

My mom passed away last year and strangely enough her favourite song came on the radio today.

Just think of the good memories and her foresight to give you good music tastes and even introducing you to music.

It is a relief when the suffering is over, Rest in peace.

As much as you prepare yourself for the inevitable loss of a parent, when the
time arrives it's never easy. You have wonderful memories of your supportive Mom who certainly enhanced your love of music which can never be taken away. My condolences Mongoose.

So sorry you have lost your Mom Mongoose.

To have lived to 85 is an achievement in itself in my eyes.

Parents can be such an influence on their sons and daughters.

I'm sure your Mom was a big influence to you in music, as well as just making sure you turn out to be a good person.

That's what a Mom is all about.

hi Mongoose, so sorry for your loss. I know you'll miss your mother. It sounds like she was a woman who had really good taste, and who was cool, accepting, loving, and had a sense of fun. Take good care of yourself, and thanks for sharing at a time like this.

best wishes,
