“Undun”

That’s one of Randy’s songs. He wrote it but he didn’t have the chops to sing it. “Takin’ Care of Business”, and “You Ain’t Seen Nothing Yet”, on that he’s OK. I added the flute part and changed a few notes around, but it’s Randy’s song. He just never could have sung it the way I did.

That sums Burton up nicely. "Me, me, me and, furthermore, Me!" I love most of the music but couldn't share an elevator with him without wanting to smack him. Pretentious asshat. A nightmare... [imho]

STG - Did you see the interview with him (Burton) back in the early days of Canada's MuchMusic? After he had a recent relationship split? How do I say it politely - man was he vocal in that one.

While not knowing the inner workings of The Guess Who, Burton has one of the Greatest if not The Greatest voice in rock and roll! IMO

No - but I can imagine. But I DO remember his brief foray into the movies. I believe it was called Melanie. The trailer showed him naked at the piano. And it flopped. The movie, I mean.

He was also a bit of a douche at SARS, pushing his way to the front of all the group shots, grinning beside Mick... Always pushing others aside. A distasteful man.

His Facebook page is better than most, and he's something of an insomniac, so if you're up late, he'll probably be grateful to have someone to talk to.

Can't argue with you - I've seen them in concert several times. But he doesn't realize that sometimes the success is due to the group as a whole. And when he strapped on a guitar to line up with the other guitarists in No Time, grinning his rock star grin like he's the whole show, I kinda threw up in my mouth a bit.

STG, my mistake, the interview was on "The New Music" - pre Canada's MuchMusic and pre JD Roberts heading south to become CNN's John Roberts (later CBS and Fox). Here it is for those interested:

You seem to have some pretty strong opinions about him STG. He actually loves The Stones and I can tell you he's one of the most unpretentious people in music.

Sorry Roller, I really didn't mean to poop on your thread. But you're right, what I've seen of him rubs me wrong. Glad to hear he has some nice qualities and yes, he's a great singer. And my mom wouldn't let me put posters up, but I secretly pined for John Denver, so now you have some real ammo to use against me. grinning smiley

I WILL shaddup now.

What's so great about Charlie is that you just know other people made him go to the front row of that photo shoot.

No, not at all, I enjoy differing opinions and a lot of performers are very different in person than their public persona, but that's not what I'm writing about anyway. Did you go to all those Toronto Stones shows? Grow up going to concerts at Maple Leaf Gardens, the Ex?

[Embarrassed...] I loved the Stones from the time of 12X5 but wasn't really into music until 10 - 15 years ago. My first Stones show was SARS here in 2003 but I've been making up for lost time. I saw the Guess Who in Montreal on their reunion tour, Running Back Thru Canada when Joe Cocker opened for them, saw Burton solo when he recorded Up Close And Alone at the CBC and the GW again at SARS. When I think of all the Stones shows here that I missed, I need a good, stiff drink.

Burton Cummings and the Guess Who were/are great.

They have so many great hit songs that it is hard to believe. I saw them in Barrie Ontario on a reunion tour way back when ever one time and we had great seats up front and they played awesome song after awesome song. I remember Burton's voice being very strong and Randy Bachman (Big ole Randy) doing a great job on guitar.

A few weeks back a friend of mine in Edmonton called me and told me a good story about how they had just seen Burton play a show at some local casino and he said it was a great show... and then after the show my friend spotted Burton sitting in the casino by a slot machine signing some stuff for fans, answering various questions and said Burton was a nice normal guy hanging out and chatting.

I think my favorite Guess Who song right now is Rain Dance
[www.youtube.com]

...although they have so many songs my favorites rotate.
