Looks good.
Will be interesting to see how much reference is made of Dad Bert.
Austerity in the 40s and 50s. Yeh, well it returned to the UK in 2008 (for some people and communities). And will be hard to escape from.

Keith Richards, the rock and roll icon and Rolling Stone chats to Jo on about his new documentary on BBC Two - The Origin Of The Species. It's all part of the BBC's My Generation season and looks at Keith's formative years during the post-war period, and an exploration of how they impacted his life, and influenced the 60s and the decades that followed.

Some quotes culled from Keith's interview with Radio Times:

"I want to be buried next to Charlie Watts."

"Charlie Watts is amazing, the hardest job in a band is drumming, the sheer power and subtlety of the man. I go up there just to be able to play with Charlie Watts, he's an amazing man. My aim is to get as cool as Charlie."

'If I've got anything to do with music, it's from being brought up by Doris. Music everywhere. If there was silence in the house, something was wrong.'

"Musically, The Beatles had a lovely sound and great songs. But the live thing? They were never quite there.”

Maybe a silly question, but will this be available as a live stream?

Yes but only if you live in the UK.

If I'm not wrong, most of the BBC broadcasts are available for some time on their website (TV broadcastings can only be watched by UK residents, though), so maybe this documentary will be available too.

I am trying to figure out how to stream this on my laptop. I have a VPN service with servers in 29 countries including the UK which I could set up to make it appear that I am located in the UK, however, I am not sure if BBC Two streams live over the internet.

Can any UK members here enlighten the board as to how to watch BBC 2 live on a computer. Maybe provide a link or something.

Thanks.

It will be available on the BBC "i player" if that helps you at all

Thanks. I found the iPlayer.

The show time is 21:00 hours. I do not know if that is UK time or what. Have no idea.
Quickly going over the page it is unclear to me what time zone they are talking about.

I suppose that once I understand the time zone, then if I am lucky I can watch the show using my VPN set to a UK IP address.

And here is a link to the page >>> [www.bbc.co.uk]

You'll only be able to watch it if you live in the UK though.
Unless, that is, you have a work-around.

Thank you very much, Green Lady!

Here's a rewind: Keith Richards at Home (first broadcasted on radio 2 in 2010) will be on air again next Tuesday on radio 6 at 2am.

"To complement the My Generation season across the BBC, another chance to hear when it was "all back to Keith's" as the legendary Rolling Stone talks about his incredible life and times, in the relaxed surroundings of his Connecticut living room.

We've seen plenty of Keith, the rock 'n' roll maverick, and the legendary Rolling Stone commanded even more headlines than usual following the publication of his autobiography.

Sexton has interviewed Richards, and his fellow Stones, on countless occasions over the past 15 years and this is reflected in the candid and often amusing nature of the exchange. Keith vividly describes controversial moments, memorable encounters, guitar heroes and proud achievements.

Richards describes his house and surroundings as he sits in front of a portrait of himself, revealing that it was created and then presented to him by a close, and very famous, friend. He discusses his devotion to the guitar, including the surprising confession: "I'm not a lead guitar player, basically, and never wanted to be". He also talks about his all-time favourite players: "I wanted to meet Scottty Moore more than I wanted to meet Elvis Presley."

The wide-ranging chat also covers the first record Keith ever bought, comic escapades on the road, his adulation of icons from Robert Johnson to Chuck Berry, how the Stones continue to extend the frontiers as rock's ultimate survivors, and much more besides - including his thoughts on Mick Jagger, his creative partner of nearly half a century.

The programmes are packed with colourful stories of an unparalleled life and illustrated with some of the best music of the past 50 years, made both by Keith and some of his own idols.

First broadcast on Radio 2 in 2010."

Now that I'm no longer living in the UK I use TunnelBear for Google Chrome, they give you 500 MB free per month which should be enough to watch the documentary smiling smiley
