I think this is 2 different questions. One, what bands/artists do you regret not seeing that you had an opportunity to see (meaning you were of age and it was your decision not to see them).... and two, which artists do regret not seeing ever in history?

I'll answer the former because I think it is a more interesting question. (I am 46)

The Who 82 (saw them a number of times after, but not the same)
Pink Floyd 87 (saw them in 94, and Roger Waters a number of times, who to me, IS Pink Floyd)
Page/Plant 95 (closest thing to a zep reunion in the US)
Johnny Cash (no explanation needed - unnacceptable that I haven't seen him, since I have become a HUGE fan lately)

Come to think of it, I am proud to say the list is short. I have seen all the biggies since I have been of concert going age and have no real regrets beside Johnny Cash.

I sold my ticket because I felt guilty about how much I was spending on my Stones ticket in Newark.

Thankfully, there aren't many that I could have seen and didn't. I'm 49.

The Kinks! 83 maybe? Snowed out and rescheduled show was the night before high school exams. Parents said "Nope."

Yes -- Had tickets for 90125 tour. My mom was having surgery the next day. Had to give the ticket to Johnny Zouck. He said it was awesome.

Not to diss them, my parents were/are fantastic and open minded.

First concert was Grateful Dead in '79. I was 12.

They bought me my first Stones ticket in '81 and had my brother take me. I was 13. Not hard duty for my bro.

My older brother had a last minute spur of the moment spare ticket, but I was out with some friends and couldn't make it to Hollywood in time.
Didn't think it was a big deal at the time, but never had a chance to see him again - the rest is history.

Led Zeppelin, 1977 at the L.A. Forum.
A friend of mine had tickets, but I was stuck in Arizona going to school at the time.
Eventually saw Plant solo '83 & '85, Page at Arms Benefit '83, The Firm '85, Page solo '89, and Plant/Page '95 twice, but it was not Led Zeppelin no matter what.

Also - I would have loved to have seen Lynyrd Skynyrd pre-airplane disaster '77, but never had a chance.

Shows I'm old enough to have seen, but did not see, would include:

The Who, with Keith Moon, in 1976
(wasn't yet a big Who fan, and was probably distracted by the upcoming Wings tour, which I did see)

Led Zeppelin in '75 and '77
(was planning to see them in '80 when Bonham died)

Pink Floyd, with Roger Waters, in '75, '77 and '80
(I was a fan, but I guess just not enough of a fan)

George Harrison, in 1974
(I was 15, and I guess I figured I'd see him next time .... but of course, there was no next time)

John Lennon, when he showed up at Elton John's MSG show in '74
(I lived in NY at the time, and was beginning to get into EJ in a big way, but unlike many of my high school classmates, I hadn't really started going to concerts yet)

I've seen pretty much everybody.
Wish I had seen Merle Haggard and miscellaneous older blues artists.

I did see Muddy Waters who was a class act that night at the Ash Grove.
Did not look like a man who had painted anybody's ceiling!

The Stones will always be my favorite group even though I know them, have seen
them at their best and have only mild interest in seeing them these days.
Only a return or two or three with Bill Wyman and Mick Taylor would bring me
back.

The following two were definitely on my bucket list (I must have had a premonition or something) to see:

David Bowie
Prince

Aside from those two, I wish I had seen Led Zeppelin (at the time I passed on seeing them as I wasn't into them the way I am now), Jimi Hendrix (I was probably too young to even attend a show during the time he was alive), and John Lennon (I daydream that had he lived that the Beatles would have reunited and played some shows).

From those I could have seen, but missed the chance: Chuck Berry, Bill Wyman

From those I didn't have a chance to see, but would love to have seen them, there would be a long list obviously, but mostly The Beatles, Elvis and first of all Johnny Cash

The only ones I regret not seeing are Bowie and Simon & Garfunkel...S&G obviously still possible, but not likely with both turning 75 this year and Paul recently saying they don't even talk anymore. Guess I can always see them separately.

Wish I could have seen Zep, but I was too young as their last US Tour in '77 was a good five years before I really started attending shows.

Jimmy Page and The Black Crowes. Had tickets, gig canceled.
Live Aid. Passed on it, Mrs. Roller went......

David Bowie at the Tower Theater in Philly - my dad told me I couldn't go because I'd been to too many concerts that year.
Led Zep at JFK in Philly - had tix but Robert Plant's son died and show was cancelled.

I'm going to go with shows I COULD have realistically seen given my age...

My excuse was that I was in an overnight queue, on the pavement, to get tickets to see The Rolling Stones at The Big Apple in Brighton in 1971.

To those who missed Jimi, I see him every day [3.bp.blogspot.com] and I did hear his last UK concert from my tent at the IOW Festival.

Anytime The Who were performing somewhere around and I did not attend as I felt I saw/see them way too much (Nottingham 2014, Belfast & Scotland 2013, RAH several times during the first years after 2000, US east coast in late 2000). Unlike with Stones concerts – for The Who I never felt as if “the 3td was too much”.

Clapton – missed two chances to see very good concerts of him. The fact is that I did not attend one of the concerts as I was a teenager and had a fight with some friends who were supposed to go together. I wanted to “show’em” - and missed some good concerts.

Guns and Roses -the concert they gave in my country is still regarded as “one of the worst ever given here by a capable band” but I still like them very much. I was in the army and there was nothing I can do.
