Boston - August 1987 in Worcester, MA - One of their "Homecoming Concerts".

Little Feat - August 1988, Hyanis MA - I was a stagehand. The band had read the rider and knew that the stage was a circle that rotated. They instructed the roadies to place all of the equipment on the outside edge of the stage facing in towards the center of the stage. We thought they were crazy... Until the show started. We watched as the band was able to play to each other and the audience on the far side of the stage from each of them while the people in the front rows immediately behind each member were able to feel like they were "back-stage". AWESOME show.

Harry Belefonte - Summer 1988, Same venue as above. I watched spellbound as Harry (the only one on stage - members of Paul Simon's Graceland band in the orchestra pit) worked that audience like a master puppeteer seemingly enjoying every moment of it.

Joe Perry Project - Fall 1983 in my high school gymnasium. During Joe's hiatus from Aerosmith, he played just about anywhere he could. One gig was a fundraiser in our gymnasium. I couldn't tell you much about the music or the show, I can just say that, after spending the entire show ~4' from Joe's feet, I felt like I had a much better idea of what rock & roll is than when I went in to the show.

More Later

Peace,
Mr DJA

Impossible for me to list-From Hendrix in Sept 1968 to Joe Bonamassa last month, I've seen many great concerts, fortunately only a few stinkers, and a bunch of average shows, but there are probably close to 100 shows I would call great.........maybe I'm just not that hard to please.

i'm gonna say two based on no experience/expectations. both fall 1982

1. joe jackson, night & day tour at a small 3000 seater in october. "another world" from that album is fantastic and still takes me back to that evening.

2. devo, oh no, it's devo tour. same theater, nov. '82. fantastic/incredibly inventive show/great band. first half done in front of a video screen/tape, the band and the video synched, crammed into just the first ten feet of the stage. second half the screen goes up, they move everything around (a bit like talking heads/stop making sense tour) and blow the roof off. went in saying FU devo, came out a convert.

Along with many mentioned..

I was 14 when Led Zepelin (sic) and Jethro Tull came to Santa Barbara in 1969; I was dumbstruck. Misspelled poster shown here since they were not big yet.

I've seen several variations of the lineups (minimal to full blown w/choir and horn section), but to sum it all up with a few words and generally speaking:

Amazing. Loud. Hard. Electric. Guitars. Horn Section. Dynamics. Quiet. Blistering. Strobe Lights. String Section. Wah Wah. Sonic. Blissful. Soft. Improvisation. Backup Gospel singers. Flashbacks. Euphoria.

And then there was the very minimal Acoustic Mainlines tour: Heavenly. Poignant. Soulful. Heartwarming.

Here's a nice review from the last time I saw them in 2014 at the Theater at Ace Hotel in Los Angeles where they performed 'Ladies and Gentlemen We Are Floating in Space' in it's entirety along with much more.

Spiritualized reaches the outer limits at the new Ace Hotel

I saw the same line-up in '69 at The Swing Auditorium in San Bernardino. How could I forget that show!? It was incredible. Being a flute player,I'm was particularly blown away by Tull.

Keith Jarrett - Barbican in the 90s. Trio did an improvised piece in the second half and people's jaws were hitting the floor.

Jim Jones Revue 2013? Bristol - unbelievably hard hitting sonic rockabilly - Jerry Lee Lewis meets The Sonics.

Brian Wilson - seen him 30 times. Always one of the best gigs ever (except one where Brian clearly was having an especially bad day) - as McCartney said, everyone knows he has the best band in the Universe. Saw him a couple of days ago in Bristol and I still haven't come down.

Polyphonic Spree - Bristol 2015...nearly ran away to Austin to join them.

Sir Fab Macca - couple of times...well he's Paul McCartney - pissed me right off to get the girls and boys to stop and sing the end of Hey Jude, I was in heaven until then.

CSN 1991?? in London. They stood there played acoustic guitars (no band) and sang. They were incredible even though they were 20 years past their best. Hearing 3 people sing like that together was amazing - as with McCartney, lose a point or two for audience participation spot - i paid a shit load of money to hear you guys sing, i don't wanna listen to the other punters yell the irksome Teach Your Children. Crosby's voice was shockingly fantastic.
