Rich Cohen book : The Sun & The Moon & The Rolling Stones
Posted by: 35love ()

Do you think this new book (May 10) will 'hurt' ticket sales? Do you think Cohen's been waiting for his non-disclosure to expire/ no longer Jagger employed?/ had this ready?
I have pre-ordered the book, I am a reader, but this new article,
pretty harsh :-(

Cool cover and title, at least. Bullish reviews on Amazon.

He did the Rolling Stone cover story #689, Aug. 25 1994 issue with the Stones wearing masks.

I know the Stones camp was quite disappointed with its dullness, as was I.

No correlation to Stones sales.

P.S. He co-created Vinyl, so must have bumped into Mick as the book was being prepared for publication. I assume he kept it on the down-low.

Thanks Dean :-)

Well certainly this book doesn't look boring, on the contrary, intense beliefs of character and 'an inside story of Oz'
but do we really want to look behind the curtain?
We *know* it's not really a summer romance,
but too much information is damaging.
He did not 'maybe bump into Jagger' w/ Vinyl,
he talks about years of regular intimate dinners w/ Jagger, Scorsese, w/ Cohen the writer while they regaled. This was after he toured with them.
So,
true stuff? Why? Just a money grab?

(edited for spelling)

I have no idea about the accuracy of the content, but just judging by these extracts, the quality of the writing seems to be terrible.

Seems like a lurid re-telling of things we mostly know.
Like, Mick Jagger was the manager of the Rolling Stones -- um, yeah, and this is supposed to be a bad thing?
And if Mick 'uses people', why is he still in a band with a guitarist from his school days, a drummer for 50 years, Ronnie for 40 years (and God knows he could have kicked him out several times if he was that cutthroat) and from what I gather, a support staff that has been with him since the 1980s.
I'd like to read more about Mick's artistry. There was a piece in the WSJ last year about Moonlit Mile that is one of the few pieces to shed light on the fact that this guy knows how to make great records. That's more interesting than the celebrity stuff.
As for Keith, writers tend to either glorify or give us fake outrage about his addictions. I know it's a big part of his life, but again it's not as interesting as his artistry and his ability to keep performing and making music. Mick and Keith both seem to share that fierce desire to keep the Stones on top, good for them, I say.
...
I'll read the book, but I'll try not to pay for it!

Do you think this new book (May 10) new will 'hurt' ticket sales?

Absolutely, after everyone reads this book The Stones will never be able to sell another ticket and no one will ever buy another of their albums or buy any of their merchandise. This book will be the end of The Rolling Stones.

People may be willing to put up with the same set lists, but not with what is in this book.

By the way, what is this book about?

And, I think I will await judgement until I actually read the book.
This particular article was more than just 'Mick took business charge/ Keith took drugs' however.

As Dean Goodman says, the Amazon reviews are "bullish."

(when I first read Dean's comment I thought it said the reviews on Amazon are "bullshit" -- was was about to ask what he meant, since most are quite positive! spinning smiley sticking its tongue out

Anyway, I look forward to reading the book...new perspectives, new material, new insights. Why not? It'll be fun summer reading. Plus, I'm a big fan of Vinyl!

KRAMER: A gymnast, Jerry. Think of the flexibility. Mmm, that sex'll melt your face.

JERRY: Yeah, you know, Kramer, there's always a price to pay for just a sexual dalliance.

KRAMER: Jerry, you should pay that price.

Say what you will about Mick but it doesn't get much lower than to write a
tell all story about a friend or a person whom made the mistake of trusting this
"author".

Whether this stories are true or not, the book does not states anything we have not heard before. Mick has worked very hard to keep the band going. Thanks to his business knowledge and acumen the Stones still remain a very successful act, even if in a different form than previous to 1981. In regards to his personal life he is dating a very good looking girl, who seems decent (by reading the article) hard working and dedicated to her craft.

"He effectively took over the band in the 1970s when everyone else was out of it on drugs"

How dare he take control when everyone else is out of it on drugs?

When had bad publicity any negative effect on their popularity?

Just as long as the guitar plays, let it steal your heart away

It's the key to their success, if anything.

*oh my, never claimed to be Saint. I can't be bothered with your petty morals, or however Keith said it to the judge.
Perhaps there are more scholarly aspects of the book I'm after.
Oh wait, I am in a free country >18, pretty sure I can read whatev. and not have to defend myself. All the books pure and non- fiction where you at?

*Yes, Patti Hansen, that's the real scandal!
I don't know how to make the pics appear here, it was 7-8 photos from 'W' magazine, stunning.
Anywho, I'll tell you, the author was on the road/ same room when news of Nicky Hopkins death came thru to Bobby Keys, it's this stuff that entices me, both those musicians I've spent a lot of my music life listening to-
and okay, I love reading about the RS.
I mean I found this place and am hanging out, right?
