I'm in as long as this isn't going to cater to the boomers. That would make it a borefest
Uh.. of COURSE it will cater to us boomers.
The concert Coachella puts on for you younguns is on now and looks dreadful.

Enjoy the Kardashian clan.
You kids be safe now.

*right, total turn-off it's only a fashion show/ publicity stunt. Are ANY of them there to listen to actual music?
I agree with you, none of them are there for the music.
But if the crowd is going to be remotely similar to the last US shows I've attended, I'd rather have the Kardashians, just as boring, but much better looking.

Is Palm Springs a drivable distance? Looks like it is about 22 miles.

Yes, but also look at Indian Wells which is only about 10 miles.
Lots of hotels and resorts there - Marriotts, Hyatts, Embassy Suites, etc.

edit: Hmmmm...now looks like most of those are totally booked for that weekend.
Was just looking yesterday and there were plenty - now only a couple left (Best Western, etc.) with heavily inflated rates.

I went to four ZipCodes, had a blast at them all!! Great sections with the usual (first concert '78) great, great groups of fans. I recommend floor seats if you can. Haven't tried to "sit" at a Stones concert in ... ever. Hope that helps!

Well it does seem to be confirmed, I was reading it somewhere or other earlier this evening here in London. Can't recall where exactly I read it, but it does appear to be confirmed in fact - it's just that it was Daltrey who was the first of the 'artists' to actual provide that confirmation. I've little doubt the others will be confirming it on their own websites or channels in due course. Exciting stuff - WHAT a bloody line up !!

Last gasp of the dinosaurs and a Boomer's wet dream. Y'know, in reality, it'd be a helluva festival if it actually comes off...but the tix will be gone before you can breathe in and the scalper/reseller prices will make your mortgage look cheap. For moi, it'll be interesting to see if Neil Young sells out for this considering his history of knocking/mocking the hippie/boomer dream. And, who knows, maybe CSN can find a way to share the stage with Neil. That'd really get the Boomers off...and I"m a Boomer so don't knock me. I am the first to mock my own generation. My favorite self comment about us 60s people was/is: There's nothing like conformity dressed up as nonconformity.

I've heard that some duct tape and a little Preparation H goes a long way. In fact, I'm counting on it.

These all-day outdoor pop festivals are much more suited to the teen and twenty-something set. It's much less fun when you are in your fifties. I saw Bob Dylan at an arena show about ten years ago and his voice was not recognizable and he did a decent Bill Wyman impression standing behind his keyboard all night. The show was about as exciting as watching paint dry. It didn't even feel like it was Bob Dylan.

Assuming a quite young crowd then there will be quite a bit of incongruence in the sense that a lot of the people watching the shows won't even know the big hits. It really has a "When are we ever going to escape the Sixties" feel to it. Also, I somehow doubt that the Stones are going to be able to pull off another Glastonbury.

I am just not feeling it at all, and I would never shell out $800 (?) to see the whole thing. It all has a feel of milking money out of people and squeezing the last drop out of a dried husk. Hey kids! Come listen to hits that were hits 20 years before you were even born!

If I plop myself back into my youth as a child of the 1970s and it was 1976, would I want to go see a concert by artists that were big in the 1920s and 1930s? It's all starting to feel kind of bizarre.

Nope! And at the time even if Benny Goodman was alive (just checked and he was) none of my friends would want to go see him...

I swear one day somebody is going to get all befuddled and lost on stage, or somebody is going to have a stroke or worse.

I have mixed feelings about it too. I saw Dylan, Tom Petty, and the Grateful Dead at RFK stadium in DC a few decades ago. All I remember is the heat, thought I was gonna pass out a few times. Maybe at a festival it's different because you can move around more. My daughter went to Coachella a few years ago and loved it, but then she was only 21 years old. Most of us on this forum are a wee bit older than that. grinning smiley

I'm tempted to try for some tickets and get a hotel reservation, but I'll see how I feel when it's a little bit closer to reality.
