I think those opening phrases, with guitar and harmonica, are worth the price of admission alone.
The production? It's as glorious as most of the songs on Exile on Main St.
And another thing: this may be the most "English" blues song ever written.

This is 1966. They are getting ready. I love the Rolling Stones
and the production, the way they all play, the fuzzy guitars etc etc.
The 60's was the golden-age of the B-side: of that, there's no doubt. EP's were marvellous, too: picture sleeves, unique liner-notes, and, occasionally, exclusive song-content. I'm of the understanding that the reason for the EP's popularity across the U.K. and Europe was due to the relative expensiveness of the LP and the pop music-buying demographic being unable to afford LP's; something American teens - with, perhaps, more disposable income - were able to do.
I agree. I started of mostly with buying EPs (and those EPs were great!), because LPs were costly. I was lucky that their first album (due to a sudden finish of Tell Me) was only 10 guilders (EPs were 6 gldrs) and that nr. 2 (brand new) was the same price on a flee market (apparently imported - or maybe snitched - from the UK with red label). In 1966 I had to make a choice between saving up for an album and going to see the Stones in Den Bosch. The train tickets and concert ticket were a fair bit more than an album. Besides, the previous concert in Holland was over in 15 minutes and in 1966 (the concert lasted 30 minutes and the Stones were somewhat drunk, I later read) there were still lots of riots and they announced lots of police to be present, so .... with pain in my heart ... I chose for an album, which I could play every day ... Aftermath
Times have changed, flying all over the world to see the Stones
I think all 5 tracks mentioned are damn fine! Stoned is just a boogie instrumental, sure, but it has a charm all it's own.

Love it. Found out about it many years after starting to listen to the Stones and was very pleasantly surprised. It's very loud and in-your-face, and I still wonder what's the secret how such a simple 12-bar blues can sound so heavy.

Some of the Stones b-sides where truly magnificent songs that in this day and age of diminishing gems would have been been key album tracks.
I'm thinking of Ruby Tuesday, Child Of The Moon, Play With Fire, and possibly even Dandelion.
But there were also songs that were obviously just put together on the spot for the sake of having a b-side like Stoned; Congratulations; Good Times, Bad Times; and Who's Driving Your Plane.
Who's Driving Your Plane is a case of the Stones very much on autopilot, and winging it to deliver a b-side in the shortest time as possible. It's fun but not essential.

Who's Driving Your Plane, Stoned, Long Long While, Don't Know Why, Jiving Sister Fanny, all relatively simple songs, but really fantastic. I wish their A-sides nowawadays came even close to those.

Listen to the vocals. Here's a 23 year old Mick at work. It is amazing how strong and
mature his singing was at this young age. Same with Confessin' the blues.

Along with fellow B-Side, Sad Day, Who's Driving Your Plane? was a track I looked forward to hearing immensely, when about to purchase the terrific 'London Years' collection. However, like the aforementioned, it disappoints. It's a definite throwaway. One senses that there is perhaps a germ of a good song within, but it falls flat. The guitars' don't leap-out as they should, and the production is murky. A very dreary number.

Dirty, bluesy, raunchy, swingin’, and psychedelic all at the same time, with groovy lyrics and a marvelous mélange of guitars, harp, and barrelhouse piano. Kinda like “Leopard-Skin Pill-Box Hat” but re-imagined via some remarkably powerful, mind-altering substances.

For them each and every song was important. The term B side sounded pretty rediculous. The songs were in mono to start with and sounded great. Decades later the record companies started to mess with technology (how dreadfully scr*wed up was the first CD version of Get Off of my Cloud!) when re-releasing old songs. What a shame.

Love this song. It's short, raunchy and just perfect to be played in a small smoke filled club, dim lights, your hand on your baby. It's the blues. It would sound good with "Down In The Hole" coming up through the ending moments of this song.
