A very moderate song, which that childish "singing" towards the end contributes to make the least attractive Stones song ever.

Always liked this song, inspired by Billy Preston (or according to Bill Wyman written by Billy, at least BW credited BP when the Rhythm Kings did the song).
In the post "Preston song basis for "Melody"?" (2009) it was mentioned that Preston's 'Do You Love Me' was the basis. However in the same thread there is a post by mike567 of another Preston clip and the similarity was so clear. Unfortunately I cannot see that clip anymore so I can't check which song it was.

Melody is a great addition to the Stones canon. It sounds different, which is what makes it great. Hand of Fate sounded out of date and hackneyed at the time. It's since gained some ground.

I love Melody. Not a typical "Stones" sound, indeed, but it really works great. Mick's on fire on this one and the groove of it is great.
Occasionally, "not typical Stones" songs can work out really well: Melody, Heaven, Indian girl, to name a few.
