Least Favorite Studio Cut?
Posted by: HonkeyTonkFlash ()

As a die hard Stones fan, even many of their much maligned efforts have a place somewhere in my heart (of stone) - with one glaring exception: I still cannot get past Cherry Oh Baby from Black and Blue. Anyone else care to share their least favorite Stones cut? Talking studio recordings only please...

Back. To. Zero. Hands down.

I know Keith supposedly contributed most of the material for Dirty Work, but this song reeks of Jagger solo material.

I can live without either of those, but still could sit through them easier than I can through Cherry Oh Baby...

REGGAE not your thing!
I'm not a big fan of CHERRY OH BABY either but the Stones were getting
into reggae and its nothing more than a filler. Not good or bad. No real passion.

Actually, I love reggae but, as you said - COB sounds uninspired and devoid of passion.

No, we're listing our least favourite cuts, DandelionPowderman; you've mentioned one of the band's greatest latter-day offerings (smiling smiley).

I'm not sure if there's another track since 'Midnight Rambler' on which the Stones have sounded so threatening, so fundamentally... The Rolling Stones.

'Gunface' interests me for a number of reason, DP; why do you dislike it so much?

It shows the Stones at their most grungy and, as I mention above, their most threatening.

With lyrics like:

I've got a debt to repay
I ain't gonna cry
I put a gun in your face
You'll pay with your life

I see it as an updated version of the narrative and character offered in 'Hand of Fate', a vengeful gunslinger stalking 'a one horse town'. Quintessentially Stones.

It is the production you take issue with, perhaps?

.....

Olly.

Streets of Love.
Many others (I can't remember all their titles) from the last 25+ years - truly forgettable
The reason I remember the title Streets of Love is that it was forced upon me live several times during ABB tour.

Exactly why they don't let fans pick the set lists! One man's junk is another person's treasure!

Sweet Neo Con!
It's awfull and not a Stones song, just Jagger who wants to let people know he's not just a rock star, but also politically comitted. One of those songs ABB could be easy without.

It's the songwriting, the production, Mick's guitar sound and the (imo) bad chorus. Unconvincing. But I'm glad you like it.

I'm in the minority that thinks Back to Zero isn't totally horrible (I also like She's the Boss, so what do I know). That being said, Might as Well Get Juiced.
