Uncompressed LPCM audio would be too much data to fit on the DVD.

But this is what you "get" with the BR version of the shows, right?

I do want audio only versions but not at the expense of the super box. I'd want every show in perfect audio.

I got the DVD audio rips. Audio rips never seem to sound perfect to me. I wonder if these programs rip the audio in to a mp3 format or something. I wonder if and analog, with good old fashioned RCA jacks would be better?

The audio rip can only be as good as the audio on the DVD, in this case Dolby Digital Stereo, Dolby Digital 5.1 and DTS, which is all compressed. Uncompressed LPCM audio would be too much data to fit on the DVD.

I'm sorry if I'm a little slow. I'm trying to understand as well as possible.

Do you think the DVD rips are not and can never be as good as what we saw on TV in 1995 (Stripped Companion)?

Would it not sound well to mix a DVD rip with what was released on the "Stripped" and "Totally Stripped" CDs?

I want to make the best STRIPPED ever. I wasn't crazy over the Studio Beast of Burden (Stripped) but there are some version on Totally Stripped that got my attention. I'm not sure the sound would match well?

A dvd rip won't sound worse than a cd.

Worth it for the back-stage version of Tumblin' Dice ...
Chuck on piano with Mick ...Bernard ... and a very very loose Keeeeeef ....

Could watch that kinda stuff night and day ...

I watched it once and most likely will never watch it again – except for the Tokyo studio sessions. Amsterdam is THE highlight. Nothing else comes even close!

If you find out, let me know. I've asked this same question and never got a straight answer. Guess there's not many older fans as us who really remember the original airing, or even care. I might just have to dig out my old vhs and vcr. Summer's busy so it'll have to wait til fall...yeah, yeah I know there were 2 airings (UK and US) but that still does not answer his question.

why should I watch the documentary again (except for Tokyo)? Beside some interview snippets and two short (backstage) rehearsals it features nothing that isn't on the three concert DVDs

I haven't seen the original for many years either. This was announced as a longer documentary, so something new could be expected.
It's probably mainly the complete Tumbling Dice rehearsal and some live takes.
I just hoped someone knew this.

Let it rock!

I was just checking out the audio-only aspect of this on itunes and I hate to sound cynical but what's the point? What are we getting that's really new or different? So we get HTW for the 100th time, even if it is a good version. We get MR - no shortage of official good Ramblers available. Rip This Joint is pretty good. At least there's not already a gazillion official live versions of that one out there. It is nice to have these recordings but it doesn't feel like it's quite worth all the hype. Maybe I'll see the value of it in time...

Could anyone out of the goodness of their heart hook me up with the audio files from the Paradiso show so I can burn a cdr? I would like to listen to the show on an upcoming trip in the car but I cannot rip Blu-Rays on my computer because I don't have a Blu-ray drive and also my computer "magically" upgraded to Windows 10 the other night. I already have the other 2 shows on soundboard bootlegs.

In addition, can anyone recommend any easy to use freeware regular dvd ripping programs that are compatible with Windows 10 now that my computer is "upgraded"?

Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

Well, it's obviously nice to have these shows in video and great audio quality, but the audio on the DVDs is far from the quality of a CD work. Just listen to that awful mix of "Gimme Shelter" in Amsterdam (you can barely hear the guitars at the end) and "Angie" from Paris. It is typical of a TV mix. I don't remember if the original Stripped documentary was so poorly mixed. Anyway, it's not the definitive edition to me: it would have been nice to have a Stripped-quality CD version of the three (four?) shows.

Re: Totally Stripped

Why are you saying that DVD-sound is poorer than that of CDs? CDs are way more compressed.

I have a ripped audio version of the Paradiso show. It sounds wonderful. NOT worse than the cd. There are some minor flaws sound-wise on Brixton, but not on Paradiso – not as I'm able to hear anyway.

I'm talking about the mix. I don't understand how they could make such a catastrophic job sometimes. When you're a fan, you get used to listening to the guitars interplay and sometimes overlap. Take Gimme Shelter for instance; the new mix is a mess compared to the one we have had for a long time now. Don't get me wrong: I'm thrilled about "Totally Stripped" and I agree that the sound is mostly great, especially on the Paradiso DVD. But it's far from that clear and balanced stuff we had on Stripped.

As for the Olympia, compare Angie from Stripped and the one on the DVD and listen carefully to the guitars: the new mix is a total disaster...

You are right. Sometimes the mix is terrible. At some very interesting moments Keith guitar is nearly inaudible. Especially when he plays acoustic guitar but also on gimme shelter (the solo) and Respectable.

I agree about the mix being inferior. Take SFM, which is the only song on both releases. The Stripped mix is way better.

The "Stereo" mixes on the concert blurays & dvds are a fold down of the 5.1 mix. Instruments and vocals disappear when other things enter the mix.
It's a cheapo move that really sucks.
