These days Japanese editions are kind of lottery - you get extremely nice box with extras but on the other side - faulty video is possible.

Just to clarify - any Japan made CD / Mini LP CD / original vinyl releases are mainly always a cut above the rest when it comes to sound quality / details and presentation.
I only have a few Japan made Blu-ray discs and all are fine.
Thanks for pointing out the faulty video possibility on some titles.

Eagle-Rock:

Eagle Rock Entertainment will proudly release Totally Stripped by The Rolling Stones. One of the most anticipated releases in recent years, this collection features The Rolling Stones going back to the source of many of their favourite tracks, creating new stripped back versions. Selected material from studio sessions and shows presented here formed the Stripped album of 1995.

Totally Stripped is available as a DVD or SD Blu-ray containing the newly-revised documentary of the same name, or on DVD+CD or DVD+LP featuring the documentary and single CD / 2LPs compiled from live shows [Cat Nos EREDV1224 / ERSBD3024 / EAGDV055 / ERDVLP090]. Additionally a DVD or SD Blu-ray deluxe edition is available, packaged with a 60 page hard book set containing 5 discs which boasts hours of previously unavailable music (three complete shows made available for the first time ever) from this truly legendary act.

These reimagined versions lose none of their impact and emotional heft, and in fact connect with listeners in a different way. Totally Stripped itself is a brand new version of the documentary of the same name, which tells the stories of the two studio sessions and three live shows (The Paradiso in Amsterdam in May 1995, L’Olympia in Paris and Brixton Academy in London in July 1995) that make up this project. The Deluxe Edition contains a CD of favourites drawn from across the live shows and three DVDs featuring, for the first time, ever each of those shows in full.

Following the ‘Voodoo Lounge’ tour, The Stones released Stripped, an album of reconsidered, pared back renderings of some classic Stones tracks, and also a couple of carefully chosen covers. The album mixed new studio versions of tracks with some live songs. The tracks that made up Stripped were taken from two studio sessions that took place in Tokyo [March 3-5, 1995] and in Lisbon [July 23-26], and a trio of live shows in July 1995 at small concert venues in London, Paris and Amsterdam. Keith Richards commented, “There’s something about playing these small venues, the immediacy of it. Also we can keep God out the band, because on big gigs he sometimes turns up as rain or wind”.

As Mick Jagger said at the time, the aim was to “Take the best element from [MTV] ‘Unplugged’, the intimate thing of it, without actually doing it completely unplugged”. This collection is built on the power of lyric and melody, and the material here feels somehow simpler yet potent, as the songs stand on their individual timeless quality rather than on the production techniques and technical expertise that generally come as part and parcel of being the biggest band in the world.

Totally Stripped is the release that the fans have been waiting years for, a document that reveals the inner workings not only of The Rolling Stones themselves but also indeed those some of their most loved tracks. Revealing, intimate and moving, Totally Stripped is unmissable.

To be fair. Japanese CD of Marquee 1971 is exact 1-to-1 (bit-to-bit) clone of regular EU CD. Majority (not all, but 90%) of Japanese CDs utilize the same mastering as their EU/US counterparts from Virgin or CBS. Thus, the differences are hidden in the booklets and packing. Unless you can hear 'null samples' or your ears are very sharp and player/acoustic system is very good to distinguish jitter related effects winking smiley. Bonus tracks is different story winking smiley

I received faulty Blu Rays of Sweet Summer Sun (which I returned) and Marquee from Japan - major interlace problems that rendered them unwatchable. The replacement Marquee was also faulty with the sound now being way out of synch!
You couldn't make this stuff up.
Be wary when ordering Blu Rays from Japan.

Is there any point in buying this set from Japan, when you can get nearly everything (audio-wise) from other retailers? It's only the 3 track bonus disc which you're missing and by the looks of it, you get the same material on the DVDs so a DVD audio ripper would solve that problem.

Sure. There are tons of reasons to purchase Japanese set: if you are completist, if you are collector of Japanese editions, if you like to have bonus T-shirt, if you like nice packages etc.

Otherwise - no.

I am wondering why the Japanese edition does not feature the concerts on CD, making the box really complete :

1 Totally Stripped Bluray/DVD
1 Totally stripped CD
1 Totally Stripped Bonus CD
3 Live Blurays/DVDs
6 Live CD's (2 for each show)

This would be something to look after

I'm more curious what happened to the bonus tracks on the Japan issue. Thought the songs Jump On Top Of Me, Still A Fool and Can't Get Next To You were originally planned.

All three from the 2nd Paradiso... Maybe they have something special in store for this show? A separate release? A Netflix-like online thing?

thanks ironbelly.

the recordings from the Lisbon and Tokyo studios were among my favorites from the original Stripped CD. guessing they left those off new CD because they will be in the documentary (?)...or because original stripped with those tracks can be purchased separately.

"companion" included Let's Spend the Night, No Expectations, Beast of Burden, Memory Motel. let it Bleed, Dead Flowers, Shine a Light, Sweet Virginia & Rip This Joint. Not sure if DF, SAL & RTJ are same versions as new cd.

I appreciate everyone's work and research and breaking news!

I remember the original Japanese Stripped (1995) had the bonus track "Angie" which was in addition to the "Angie" that was already in the set list.

Does anyone have any information on the second "Angie" such as which performance it came from? It also appeared on a bootleg "Stripped Naked."

Is it the Japanese Stripped or the Japanese "Bridges To Babylon"? Because I remember a live version of Angie being on BTB - recorded in Tokyo 95.

Nope, Angie was added to Bridges To Babylon Japanese cd.
Recorded at one of 1995 Tokyo Dome shows.

If my memory serves me well Black Limousine was an extra track on Japanese Stripped.

Here's something cool I found at [eil.com]

ROLLING STONES But Naked (Incredible and unique collection of unreleased artwork for preliminary design concepts of the sleeve artwork for a 1995 album titled Rolling Stones But Naked - this title was later changed and thealbum released as Stripped. The artwork boards vary in size and each shows a different visual concept for the 'finished' cover. Viewing these some 20 years after their creation it's incredible that they were rejected at all. There are 15 boards with depictions ranging from Album Visual, CD Album Visual, Box For CD (Slip Case), Box For CD with Snake Skin Texture + Belly Band, etc; a further 5 presentation boards each displaying a different pair of 3-D artwork visuals; 4 more separate colour prints each with 2 design concepts; a black plastic folder titled ROLLING STONES, "BUT NAKED" PRESENTATION displaying 8 further concepts - these are individually titled and include Underwear cover, Cigaratte (sic) cover, Bondage cover 1, Kertez cover, Cigaratte cover 2, Bondage cover 2, Leventhal Doll cover, and Rheims Bedroom cover. Finally, a quantity of 35 sheets of A3 paper designs in colour and black & white; these are hand annotated concepts depicting 'Images as reaction to the title', 'Tour Pass ideas', 'X-ray idea', 'Richard Misrach images', 'Helmut Newton images', 'Naked packaging',' Fluxus blind image', 'Images using live photos' and 'Basquiat paintings'. In total there are over 40 different unreleased artwork designs for the But Naked cover, with the additional paper items providing an interesting insight into the concepts and thought process that inform an album cover project such as this. Truly a one-off stunning collection that could simply never be repeated!).
