Thank you, Beast! "Wood and Richards took it in turns to have what looked very much like
mutually gratifying guitar sex with the audience." Ahh don't you just love it when they do that!

Good article. And I love the Rolling Stones

Call me old school but I did not mind waiting a few hours for photos, videos, reports from this fabulous event. It added to the thrill for me.

I really expected Mick to play up the historical stuff especially after the show. Instead the band made their music make the statement. First class job from staging, flawlessly
generating that much electric is no easy feat, negotiators and road crew. I believe The Stones could play on the moon with this mighty machine.

Hi all,

Are there any US citizens out there who attended? I'm curious to know what your experience getting back home through customs was like. Thanks!
Good question.

>>>Bob was at the gates at 07.00 He knows Cuba and Cubans well.
He said "when the gates open Cubans will walk towards the stage
in an orderly fashion.". Apparently there were few Cubans around
at 14.00. When I saw movement at another gate across the field
we immediately breached through the barrier and breached the
FOS section barrier shocking the security people and police.
At first they tried to grab the forerunners and shouted 'go back!'
But it was futile. Fantastic.<<<

Breaching barriers and shocking security people and police is
considered "fantastic"? I wonder what the well-mannered Cubans who
"walk towards the stage in an orderly fashion" thought of this.

I am at Pearson Airport Toronto on my way home. Some quick comments...

They were supposed to open the gates by 2pm. The gate where I was, one of the main gates, may be 4 meters wide i.e. 12 feet, opened 1:55pm. There was an insane push, and Security had absolutely no control of the incoming masses of fans. A barrier tilted and was just there on the ground With the metal feet in the air, easy to stumble into, easy to break a leg. I saw it half a second before I rushed into it, made my jump and I was fine.

To be honest, the Cuban Security is not used to this kind of reactions. Everybody is normally cool and calm, low pace, easy going. Suddenly thousands rush for the front, thousands. Not even a thousand police could have stopped us. I saw a bottleneck near the front and I moved behind two Barriers that did not really Connect. Everything was about getting fast up there, and you knew it.

I would not spend too much time on the entrance and the security. The show went fine and people were nice. Everybody was over-excited and of course this happens the same way as when the Stones came to Buenos Aires in 1995 - fans got Wild.

The Cuba show was a miracle show, it could not happen without the will of the band, and I am glad they wanted this show to happen, and now it is history.

Some great photos from Cuba on the tour pages....many thanks bv.
Unfortunately Ronnie's cosmetic surgery makes Mick and Keith look even older!
Still, a great tour by all accounts.
Would have made for a very interesting tour film, especially given the final destination. Not just concert footage either, which we already have plenty of.
Opportunity missed?

A close friend of mine is back from the show and he is not one who cares much about attendance like I do. He told me that he also read the 500k-1.5 million estimates and that in his opinion, there were between 200-300k which obviously is still huge!!! He also said the fans, understandably, did not know most of the songs and even were off on the woo-woo's in SFTD. Nonetheless, he said it was an historical event that he was honored to attend. Also said the city was beautiful. They must have made it nice for Obama and the Stones as here in Miami we see only the slums and oppression of the people. Hopefully better days ahead for the people.

I think the reports from the show in Havana Cuba will vary, depending on where you were at the show. Those first hundred thousand in the front came early. The next hundred thousand came later and obviously was not that crazy about watching the band up close. The next hundred thousand watched the screens and had a party. Then the next hundred thousand were on the side and had a great party but of course they did not own many Rolling Stones songs by memory.

May be it was four hundred thousand, may be it was six hundred thousand. For me I do know how many we were because I walked out of the show for blocks and blocks with hundreds of thousands of fans, on wide six to eight lanes streets. They had closed every street for may be 15 minutes walking. It was a large crowd for sure, a very large one. Then we took a taxi back home for 15 minutes. There we saw fans still walking. May be they left early, or may be we were late incoming. I can't remember last time I was in such a big crowd. I was at both Rio 1,3 to 1,5 millon and SarsStock Toronto 450,000. The number is not important. The show was important.

I agree BV, I just like to know the #'s. I think there are archives fro almost every show with attendance figures and people often post the box office gross. Again, it is just exciting to know how many they played for. I assume the 1.3 million is for the entire tour. Until the next time...

Thanks for your kind offer. Air Canada gave me a great free stopover Sheraton room by the airport and I had a couple of Canadian draft beers here, now heading back to Pearson Airport for the long flight to Copenhagen and then eventually Oslo Norway tomorrow afternoon.
