Never an ELP fan but sad nonetheless. What other great keyboard players do we have left? Just Tony Banks and Rick Wakeman at this point?

RIP Keith. Was just watching a video of Jerry Seinfeld mourning the death of George Carlin and he says "people don't die at 70 anymore!" And here we are with like 5 or more of them very influential musicians in the last 4 months.

Very sad. Liked him a lot 45 years ago. 45 years ago!!!
By a coincidence I saw their Pictures at an Exhibition show on TV 1971 and was hooked for a couple of years.
As far as I know he was a healthy man who were running marathon races after ELP peaked.
Read an interview of him in Prog Magazine maybe a year ago. Seemed to be a funny guy with interesting opinons Not as pretentious as at least I, with my preconceptions, thought.

I have him on a Chris Barber compilation; pre The Nice, and he was doing a Jimmy Smith style jazz thing.

I liked some of the Nice, but ELP were a bit much.

I saw him with Emerson, Lake & Palmer in a good show on the Black Moon Tour in 1992.

I vaguely remember the introduction of ELP's live album. Huge soundwall and...

Only great keyboard player left is JERRY LEE LEWIS.

We wore out several Brain Salad Surgery albums as kids...
ELP KICKED ASS!!! Music to crash cars to...

I am sad to hear of Mr Emerson passing away and very sorry to hear
about his reported health issue which messed up his hands. That sucks.

I can hardly believe it. I didn`t care for rock and roll before ELP. It had to do with the keyboards and all the non-rock references. -And suicide? Is that true? Today I use to say they made 2 good albums, "Tarkus" and "Pictures At An Exhibition". That`ll do.

He, and ELP, have been out of the spotlight so long that I had to read the name Keith Emerson a couple times to understand who the news was talking about. It's probably been 40 years or more since I've even thought of them. Still, I remember Lucky Man fondly and how different the sound was. RIP

One of the best live shows ever. Saw them 3 times back in 90s.

There was something new and exciting and almost magical when progressive rock burst on the scene in the very early 1970s. Yes, ELP, Genesis, King Crimson, Pink Floyd, Traffic.

So, it's another sad day, in what will turn out to be a very sad year for losing some of our youth for us 70s kids.

RIP, talk about headphone music, it was awesome back in the day.

They came in for some stick during punk and even after. Growing up in the (early) 70s they presented a different face of rock and I always liked Tarkus and Pictures At An Exhibition even though I don't listen to them very much any more. RIP Keith Emerson. A great keyboard player.

I aw ELP in 1978. Emerson owned it, from playing multiple keyboards at once and creating wild sounds while beating and stabbing things..to playing ragtime jazz to classical.

I did not see what they were doing as pretentious. Just 3 guys, all great musicians, pushing some boundaries - with playing/jamming being stronger than their songwriting by the last 70s....they ran out of songs, music was changing and they lost the edge that made them so interesting live in the earlier 70s, relying more on spectacle than ability to write better and better songs for the group they were.

After getting into them, I branched out to things like classical music, jazz and some experimental/prog music. They opened up a world of possibility.

Had tickets to see ELP and Jethro Tull on a double bill in '96 and just never bothered going to the show. Keith's keyboards were probably my least favorite aspect of ELP. I always preferred their lighter, more acoustic side. I think he actually sort of ruined "Lucky Man," to be perfectly honest.
