Interesting listing up at www.bullmoose.com, showing a 45 due to be released in April. They also have a book listed on the band by Rob Chapman, coming out in October.

"The New Barbarians, comprised of every member of the Rolling Stones except Mick Jagger, will release a live album later this year from their show at MSG along with a book chronicling their history. The RSD 7" would have a recorded rehearsal of the song "Africa" (the band never recorded studio tracks, only played live, this song is not a cover of Toto). The b-side would have 2 live performances from other shows. Blood red vinyl. MRI ASSOCIATED 0000017"

So perhaps this book which was already mentioned on this forum is the one that will be released? Sounds very good. thumbs up

The rehearsal piece is called Hello Africa. It's a cover of an Eddy Grant tune.

Kowalski, the design is from one of the New Barbarians tour t-shirts.

Very cool to see this dead beast awaken...Hello Africa is sort of a meandering piece of confusion if I remember it right... A nice 10 minute Truly would've been better

That is already released, isn't it? On Mac's newer version of Troublemaker (Here Comes Trouble). I think the version of Truly is clockin in on 11:47. Magic smiling smiley

Or is there a Barbarians' version out there as well?

Yes it is but so few people noticed it, it would be a great release...great jam session and really it's the Barbarians in my mind though Ian released it...

Hey DP, check out the Geneva rehearsals in full. It has 4 stabs at Truly by the New Barbarians as well as an 8 minute Act Together which is cool...there are 3 studio outtakes on that CD set too but none has any vocals so you can see why they didn't want that...The take that Ian released was from an LA session.

Oh well, Hello Africa it is...

Not sure what you mean by a Barbarian version of Truly other than the one on Mac's album -
the band on that version is the Barbarians. They cut it just before the end of the tour.

The Mac album-version was cut during the album sessions, wasn't it? I didn't think those sessions were done while on tour? Were all the band members on that version, or was one of them missing - Ronnie?

I haven't heard the rehearsal version(s).

Good ol' Darryl Keys.. smiling smiley

Thanks, Erik.

Although I remember from Mac's book that Ronnie was missing from several of those sessions.

He's clear on the vocals. He and Keith *may* have been drinking that day...it fades out and in at the end. The rehearsals are pretty aimless. Do you need them?

Ronnie may have been missing from some sessions for Mac's album,
but that session in Malibu was just a day or maybe a day and a half between shows.
Apparently Keith paid for the studio and they cut a track for Mac, one for Zigaboo and one for Stanley Clark.
I've heard one that's supposed to be Stanley's (Fingerprint Filin') but it wasn't very memorable
(or very Barbarian sounding)

Thanks, with sssoul.

I remember reading about that session. Mac wasn't very comfortable with leading a band, and Keith had to kickstart it by saying (something like): «This is your session, Mac, it's time to crack the whip» smiling smiley

Yeah, Ronnie was missing indeed from some of those sessions. Mac even recorded Cancel Everything without Ronnie knowing it. Eventually, Ronnie added guitar to it, if memory serves.

Damn, looks like this is a US release only - here is the UK list: [recordstoreday.co.uk]

It's not on the UK list - but we do get a picture disc of Bill's Monkey Grip!
