Too bad they didn't include the fantastic rendition of 2000 Light Years From Home from the Highwire b-side.

I love that one, too. When you think of the sheer variety of that setlist, it’s impressive.

Too annoying, from what I recall, they edit the b-side, cutting like a minute or two off the song -- the rip from the Terrifying Pay Per View has the entire song!
ive been trying to find that b-side for a while with no success.
Isint it from barcelona 1990

It could be. I didn't mean the b-side was from the AC show, just that it is a chopped version, and I was comparing it to the great Terrifying version, i.e. full length. I have the b-side on vinyl (and possibly cd?) but i'd have to dig it out to check if it lists where it is from.

My cd copy doesn't list anything. But I have a tape of the Barcelona show and I do think it is that version that they cut up and put on the single.

18th March: THE ROLLING STONES.
12” single (Rolling Stones Records 656756 6). Producers: The Glimmer Twins
& Chris Kimsey.
A: Highwire (MJ/KR)
A: 2000 Light Years From Home (MJ/KR) -live, Barcelona 13.06.90
B: Sympathy For The Devil (MJ/KR) -live, Tokyo 26.02.90
B: I Just Want To Make Love To You (Willie Dixon) -live, London 06.07.90

It is very weird - it was such a big production and highlight of the show - that they didn't include it on the live album and it made an appearance as an edited B-side. Can hear the fade in from it for SFTD on FLASHPOINT. They could've included it on the album, even if half the Matt Clifford vomitorium was edited.

An update with some editing, additional tracks:

Start Me Up - Awesome. Atlantic City had the best performance of it but this is great.
Sad Sad Sad - Of the 3 STEEL WHEELS songs on the album this is the only one they should've bothered with. It's decent. It's new.
Miss You - The performance of this tune was good and it's interesting but overall, eh, whatever.
Rock And A Hard Place - Absolutely horrible.
Ruby Tuesday - Interesting but unnecessary.
You Can't Always Get What You Want - Decent. Gotten to like it more.
Factory Girl - This is cool.
Can't Be Seen - Horrible.
Little Red Rooster - Horrible.
Paint It Black - Interesting, although the LIVE LICKS version is better.
Sympathy For The Devil - It was interesting when it came out but it's aged horribly.
Brown Sugar - Decent. LIVE LICKS version is way better.
Jumpin' Jack Flash - Horrible.
Satisfaction - Horrible.

B-sides
200 Light Years From Home - Too bad this didn't make the album
Gimme Shelter - A bit too perfect maybe? Clean? Pretty? A bit too fast. NO SECURITY's version is my fave.
Harlem Shuffle - This should've made the album
I Just Want To Make Love To You - This should've made the album.
Play With Fire - This should've made the album
Street Fighting Man - Weak
Tumbling Dice - Pretty good.
Undercover Of The Night - The overdubs ruin this one. Not a good song live.

Studio tracks:

Highwire - SW leftover, it's SBN.
Sex Drive - Nice guitar.

So, with those changes... perhaps it should've been released like this:

Start Me Up
Sad Sad Sad
Harlem Shuffle
I Just Want To Make Love To You
Play With Fire
Tumbling Dice
Miss You
You Can't Always Get What You Want
Factory Girl
Gimme Shelter
Paint It Black
2000 Light Years From Home
Sympathy For The Devil
Brown Sugar

I revisited this album today. Played it loud in the car. It's so much better than I remembered. Sterile and thin? That's what I remembered but NO, it's just great! Best live versions of SMU, BS, MY, Sympathy, Satisfaction, the other tracks are decent. I don't care about pverdubs and I love Highwire and Sex drive.

Maybe GLS could explain what so 'horrible' about Rock and a Hard Place or Satisfaction instead of pronouncing his opinions as if it they are facts?
I was at Wembley for 25/8/90 and Rock and a Hard Place was one of many, many highlights.2000 Light years should have been on Flashpoint, Harlem Shuffle likewise. It's a shame they mixed the bass so low - which might well be pure spite after Wyman's exit.

Already mentioned? A voice from the audience on "Get Yer..." is mixed in.
Just listen to the audience after "Ruby Tuesday"...
In total terrible mix and edit.

RAAHP is just a rote song, The Rolling Stones imitating The Rolling Stones. Satisfaction is just a run through. Vegas and all that.

I was ahead of the curve. Don't you know that opinions are facts these days... without facts to back them up?

Wow guess having an opinion that doesn't line up with yours isn't allowed in your world. I couldn't give a crap what you think. I think its perfectly normal for people to have varying opinions and likes. I certainly respect that.

I have always loved this live and the singles, it had a great production, a clean and powerful sound, unfortunately they never again dedicated so many resources to the lives that followed.

One of the 'issues' around the vinyl produced at the time is how they packed so many songs onto one record. That would compromise the sound quality. I think that was at the point where they really didn't care about vinyl anymore and were focusing on the CD releases, even CD singles.

You can see fewer and fewer vinyl releases up to 40 Licks, and Live Licks, which didn't even see (official) vinyl releases.

With that said, I think those vinyl slabs are collectible...I managed to gather a few sealed ones.

I recall more recently that they've re-issued this as a double vinyl album. Am I misremembering and only wishful thinking?

I’m not sure how this could be a SW leftover when the US didn’t get involved in Iraq until 1990, and this song and album came out after that, and the entire sound of this track is completely different from everything on SW.

Living in a Ghost Town a perfect example of a song that was repurposed with some lyrical changes.

Personally I've always enjoyed Flashpoint. Made my own copy of the album including all of the B-Sides as well. I think it's one of their best live albums, and this along with Stripped are the 2 I play the most.

I have the remastered CD and the sound is really good but I am not fond of the album. Don't enjoy the Steel Wheels tracks and I hate the sound of Keith's acoustic. Some electric/gut string hybrid? So I find myself just skipping tracks.I like that they did include rarer songs though.

Re: LIVE ALBUM TALK: Flashpoint

Today I listened to it again with the various singles and it did not disappoint me. I don't understand why to call RT useless, I remember that when it came out the live it was one of my favorite songs, since they haven't played it for many years. Play With Fire was also a fantastic surprise and played with great style. Obviously I respect different opinions ... but to argue that a song that hasn't played for years is useless ...

A Sadowsky electric nylon.

That was a weird sound. It dates FLASHPOINT. I find Ruby Tuesday and Paint It Black no fun to listen to because of that guitar. PIB on LIVE LICKS is a thousand times better.

They should have dropped the studio tracks and kept them just a singles backed with more live tracks, as was, but included the full 2000 light years and Almost hear you sigh and/or Undercover.

Start Me Up
Sad Sad Sad
Undercover
Ruby Tuesday
Miss You
Almost hear you sigh
Rock and a Hard Place
You Can't Always Get What You Want or Midnight rambler
Factory Girl
Can't Be Seen
Little Red Rooster
Paint It Black
2000 light years
Sympathy for the Devil
Brown Sugar
Jumpin' Jack Flash
Satisfaction
