Great performance. Insane paçe. I was there so I'm kind of biased. I recently found a C120 cassette tape I bought out of NME classifieds back in the day. That was all I had for 30 year, so this was a real pleasant surprise.

*smiling*
I had no bootlegs of this era ('81-'82) and had some personal issues w/ 'Still Life',
and did not realize what an impact 'Live In Leeds 1982'
would have on me,
Simply put, it gives me a lot of happiness. The first time I heard YCAGWYW/ (this version is unique, IMO) I grinned the whole way thru.
And I've watched only 2 minutes of the DVD.
Not because I don't like the DVD, rather I like it too much, and it's not always healthy for me to lust after these guys in their prime, lol.
Seriously tho,
These CD's are simply THE BEST. I feel it. That youthful falling in love, sunny outside.
The long jams, perfect sax, KEITH singing back-up with his whole heart clearly, WYMAN, the blending guitars, but bottom line:
Really my favorite live RS CD's.

YCAGWYW is indeed unique, as it is (to my knowledge) the only version with an extended slide solo by Ronnie thumbs up

Mostly same songs yes, but very different to me- it's them at their best, really live with no overdubs, longer jams, more vocal Jagger input.
Now, if I had saturated myself sick with 'Still Life' maybe'd I'd not rave so much, but if now days you want to hear these tunes live,
'Live In Leeds 1982' is much better than 'Still Life'
I've recently been comparing the 2.

I also went to this gig as well as the Newcastle date and this was a very special concert, a lovely summer's day in a large park to the north of Leeds. My only issue on the day was that the breeze seemed to blow the sound around quite a bit as the stage was at the bottom of a bowl in the park.

TO be able to listen to it as a recording is amazing and I finally got to hear the bit of the encore I missed on the day (the girl I was with became ill at the end and I had to start making our way out of the park and only heard the final two songs as I walked away.....wasn't happy at all!

Better than Still life by a country mile.

Yeah well it's a great show but dont get your hopes up about the slide solo. Ronnie is good on many songs, little t&a to name one. Under my thumb is fantastic. The intro made me smile too. winking smiley Shes so cold too. And yes i got fed up with the close up fest. Clearly not meant to be released as a concert film.

What's wrong with that slide solo??

I think it's cool, but the ending might be a bit childish..

the close ups are because the video feed used is the one for the big screen in the concert.

as long as they don't bill it a professionally shot movie, i don't see any issue with it. i've never seen more of bill than here!

it starts out cool but imo it goes nowhere and is embarrassing after awhile

Mick talked about how weird the setlist was for Roundhay... did he say the same thing about Hampton?

I liked this release, always will, but it seemed slightly redundant coming so close to the Hampton release. That said, I actually prefer Hampton. It can be said that Leeds finds them tighter, sharper, and more well-oiled - they're like a freight train. But I sort of prefer the slightly sloppy, slower-paced Hampton. Maybe it's just because it's what I grew up listening to. I already made a compilation album in my iTunes a couple of years ago combining the highlights of both, and that pretty well works for me.

Interesting, maybe, that they released albums of the second to last show of the 1981 tour and the last show of the 1982 tour. Hampton is the best of the two by far.

The first half of the Leeds show surpasses Hampton, imo.

Growing up with Hampton (and a shitty audience tape of Leeds until 2012) it's hard for me to say anything negative about Hampton, but in the cold daylight with all sentiments aside I can only agree with you. Not taking away any of Hampton's greatness I must say that in Leeds the band played insanely well, especially in the first half.

The Leeds performance is one of my favorite performances by the Stones in their history. The guitar work on here is just phenomenal (especially by Keith). I can't believe the frantic pace in which songs like Twenty Flight Rock, Let Me Go, and Satisfaction are played. I bet Charlie's arms felt like they were going to fall off after the show.

Hampton is good and they get in some fantastic grooves during the show, but Woody's drunk playing is pretty rough, and Jagger's not at the top of his game vocally. These factors put Leeds over Hampton in my book.

This show holds the second rank behind LA 75 in my opinion. Guitars, guitars, guitars. Fresh and having much fun the band isn't always on the safe side as nowadays. Both Ronnie and Keith are digging new aspects on every song. Honest R&B. The last show of the real and genuine Rolling Stones.

Good stuff overall, not the best version of Angie however....
