i worked at the park west [www.parkwestchicago.com] in chicago for a time bartending, again if you want to hear good music go where it's being played. i'm asleep it's 1am the phone rings, Dan it's Doug Niedermayer from work, "Doug it's 1am what's up?", Dale replied, "Just got a call from the stones manager they want to throw a private party for their crew, can you come to the club like now?" rolling stones private party, sure i guess so. i arrive at the club and out front is a line half way down the block, all girls, this is going to be fun. this big dude greets me at the door, sorry this is a private event, oh well i think you're going to need me i'm the bartender, he lets me in. i get the bar set up, managed to get in touch with one barback, hide my camera under the bar and they open the doors, it's 2am. the place fills up in minutes, i turn around and mick jagger, jerry hall, keith richards and ronnie woods are sitting at the bar. mick and ronnie are dressed like bartenders, mick goes it's too crowded out here we're joining you, what's your name, dan, meet mick and ronnie let's tend bar for a couple hours to 200 screaming girls, oh ok. i'm teaching mick jagger how to make a strawberry daiquiri, yeah i taught mick and ronnie how to make drinks, too funny! i grab my camera and get a few shots behind the bar, it's now 3am. mick says we should play a few songs for everyone, they jump over the bar and head for the stage. i grab my camera and get off a couple of shots of them playing, back to the bar it's crazy in here. i turn around and the big dude who met me at the door grabs me by the shirt and says, this is a private event no cameras allowed give me the film now. ok, no problem, i reach into my camera bag, quickly roll up the leaders on 2 rolls of fresh film and hand over 2 empty rolls to the big dude, he says thanks. i mumble, wish i could see your face when you try to get those developed. i've got the film. the photo below is still hanging on the wall at the park west an i've been able to make a few bucks off these photos over the years, enjoy, i certainly did. canon a1 ektachrome 100asa 50mm flash fill.

I was stunned when I found it. Amazed. I never heard of this after party
before. This story would have been very hard to believe if there weren't
photos. Mick and Ron tending bar? The Neville Brothers playing on stage at the
private after party and Mick, Keith and Ron getting up on stage to play for
the party!

I thought this thread would have run out of gas years ago but there's plenty of
stuff left in the bank!

97.1 The Drive (Raido Station)

In November of 1981 the Stones played three nights at the Rosemont
Horizon in support of their new album “Tattoo You.” November 25 was the final
of the three nights and that was that. Or so we thought. At 1 A.M. November
26, Bob Stroud was sound asleep having seen the Stones two of the three
nights, when he was awakened by his ringing telephone.

“Hello”

On the other end was a very calm Dave Benson, music director of 95 1/2 WMET The
Mighty MET.

“Get dressed. Don’t ask any questions. I’ll pick you up in 10 minutes.”

“What?”

>click<

Ten minutes later there was Benson. As Stroud entered the vehicle he worriedly
asked if everything was alright. Benson replied, “We’re going to the Park West to see the Stones.”

“WHAT?”

“They’re having a party to celebrate their last night in Chicago and the
Atlantic Records rep has our names at the door.”

“Holy s#%t!”

And there they were. Mick and Ronnie behind the bar serving drinks while Keith
stumbled about the place eyeing every lady of the night who had somehow
managed a way in. (heh heh) It was surreal. Dreamlike. Soon enough they all
bounded up on stage with the Neville Brothers who were opening for them on this
tour. They ad-libbed their way through a couple of jams and then descended
back into the crowd at the famed Park West. After a whiskey sour or two, Stroud
and Benson exited almost too stunned to recap what they’d just witnessed. It
was a school night and in a few hours it would be off to work at WMET to
relate to a shocked staff what they had seen the night before. It’s only Rock’
n Roll, but they liked it.

The Neville Brothers opened for the Rolling Stones in 1981

That may be Willie Green, the drummer for the Brothers. Cyril plays percussion in the band but the actual drumming is Willie in those years. That tom tom looks like his set up. But I do believe that is Aaron behind Jagger's shoulder.

What is confusing to me is the shot of the Neville Bros right here in this post. That can't be Charles Neville in the black shirt.

(L-R) Charles Neville, Cyril Neville, Art Neville, and Aaron Neville 1981[/quote]

Our quotes kind of got mixed up. Yes I saw the Neville Bros opening for the Stones in New Orleans in '81. Seen the Neville clan countless times.
My point with that b&w photo is that the names are wrong. I meant to write that it is not Cyril (My bad). It's Charles, Art and Aaron. But the guy in black shirt can't be Cyril. Maybe GasLightStreet knows...

A shot of Mick in his “bartender uniform” hung in the box office of Parkwest
for many years. Last I checked, though, it was no longer there.

I think there has been some others, in and around Chicago, besides just those two
