I have seen only one picture od the 1981 Dallas Oct 31st rain show. Are there anymore out there?

I also am looking for a 1981 Dallas picture of Mick that actually shows the whole "Cowboys" on the front if his shirt.

LETS SPEND THE NIGHT TOGETHER
posted by William M. Sackett

I just watched the movie filmed by Hal Ashby, of the Rolling Stones 1981 tour, and I'm really surprised at the memories it brought back, in fact I'm surprised that I remember I saw them at all that year at The Cotton Bowl.

I went with Stuart Buckaroo and his brother Buck, (I'm not kidding) in all about 10 of us including the girls. The Fabulous Thunder Birds opened, followed by ZZ Top, and when The Stones started playing, they absolutely sucked!! I mean I have heard better bar bands! Then all hell broke lose. In the photo you call see the color of the sky, it was about 3 pm, and Mick would not be dry the rest of the day. If you have never been in a Texas thunderstorm, all I can tell you is I saw days when it would go from 110 to 35 and back to 110 in an hour.

So, after the third song the storm broke with thunder and lighting and sheets of rain that you could hardly see through. Mick walked to the center of the stage and said "LOOKS LIKE WE'RE ALL GOING TO GET @#$%& WET TOGETHER!" It was one of the first shows to be cordless, and from there out it was the greatest rock and roll show I'll ever see, it fact it was unbelievable. When Mick started what John Lennon called his fag dancing, he was slipping and sliding all over the place, and he fell down at least 10 times, and like the energizer bunny, he just kept going.

We had general admission tickets, but when we got there Stuart said "follow me" and lead us to an area of covered reversed seating and said "if someone shows up, we'll move." No one did, and we had the best seats in the house. How many beers did I drink? No clue, and it seemed like every 15 minutes Stuart would turn around and shove a Quaalude in my mouth.

The best looking girls in New York, are only average in Dallas, and Stuarts girl friend was hot. At one point she needed to go to the restroom, and Stuart asked me to go with them, and when I asked why he said "you'll see." The lines at the ladies room were a mile long, and with out missing a beat we escorted her into the mens room. All of the stalls were full, and again with no hesitation, she dropped her pants, backed up to a urinal and took a piss. I can tell you, she was a big hit!

Jimmy Cliff is best known among mainstream audiences for songs such as "Wonderful World, Beautiful People", "Many Rivers to Cross", "You Can Get It If You Really Want", "The Harder They Come", "Reggae Night" and "Hakuna Matata", and his covers of Cat Stevens' "Wild World" and Johnny Nash's "I Can See Clearly Now" from the film Cool Runnings. He starred in the film The Harder They Come, which helped popularize reggae across the world,[3] and Club Paradise.

"The Harder They Come" is a reggae song by the Jamaican singer Jimmy Cliff. It was first recorded for the soundtrack of the movie by the same name.

"The Harder They Come"

Well, they tell me of a pie up in the sky
Waiting for me when I die
But between the day you're born and when you die
They never seem to hear even your cry

So as sure as the sun will shine
I'm gonna get my share now, what's mine
And then the harder they come
The harder they fall, one and all
Ooh, the harder they come
The harder they fall, one and all

Well, the oppressors are trying to keep me down
Trying to drive me underground
And they think that they have got the battle won
I say forgive them Lord, they know not what they've done

'Cause, as sure as the sun will shine
I'm gonna get my share now, what's mine
And then the harder they come
The harder they fall, one and all
Ooh, the harder they come
Harder they fall, one and all

And I keep on fighting for the things I want
Though I know that when you're dead you can't
But I'd rather be a free man in my grave
Than living as a puppet or a slave

So as sure as the sun will shine
I'm gonna get my share now, what's mine
And then the harder they come
The harder they fall, one and all
Ooh, the harder they come
Harder they fall, one and all
Hey, the harder they come
Harder they fall, one and all
What I say now
What I Say now

What I say now
What I say, one time
The harder they come, the harder they fall, one and all
The harder they come, the harder they fall, one and all

Commander: American Football outfits in different colours plus dance shoes and a jacket and hat on top of that
Bill: A yellow suit or a blue tracksuit (and a reefer...)
Charlie: tracksuit pants and a slim t-shirt
Keith & Ronnie: The usual 70s/80s rock outfit (jeans/leather jacket/ripped t-shirt...)

Isn't that about it?

I have to go by the information I find online. Therefore, I am not sure but I will try to figure it out since you brought this issue to my attention. Often the information on the Internet is wrong or missing. Do you know where you got your info? I certainly don't remember where I got my info at the time.

Often it takes some detective work to figure-out mislabeled info on the pics. Yesterday I was looking at the San Fancisco images at [www.gettyimages.com] . The a photo of Mick wearing a Philadelphia Eagles football jersey. It was the only photo on that page and the one before where it was listed as the second day at San Francisco that Mick was wearing white pants. Obviously wrong info.

With Mick wearing a jacket, the first color would be to see what color pants and red shirt he is wearing with the jack. The answer is orange.

In the Orlando photos Mick has two different shirts with the white pants. I'll check when I get time to try to figure-out which day had the white pants and which had orange. If we figure-out the pants with the day then we'll figure it all out in Orlando.

Also, Ron is wearing the blue mesh shirt and Bill with the wide white, black and red stripped shirt.

I probably got my info from this webpage [www.orlandosentinel.com] where it list the orange pants as October 24th. Like I pointed out, web info is often wrong.

If you click on the right arrow on the above picture on the that webpage listed then you'll see this photo below also listed as Mick with the white pants as October 24th.

"Mick Jagger of Rolling Stones performs in the Tangerine Bowl October 24, 1981. The Rolling Stones' American Tour 1981 was a concert tour of stadiums in the United States to promote the album Tattoo You."

"Rolling Stones performs in the Tangerine Bowl October 24, 1981. The Rolling Stones' American Tour 1981 was a concert tour of stadiums in the United States to promote the album Tattoo You. ( Red Huber/Orlando Sentinel)"

Excellent detective work, Britney! I greatly appreciate the feedback. I'm dedicated to this thread and getting correct info. Thanks for your help. This question will bother me until I reach all conclusions and facts.

I'll get back to you. It's Super Bowl Sunday. Gotta go!

We have two personal accounts from these shows. The first is from The Rock File contributing editor Mac Cancribbe, who gave his first-hand account of the October 25th show:

A Seminal Rock Event to say the least.

It was my first real rock concert. I was 15. Most of my family had gone to New Jersey to attend my uncle’s wedding. My brother John and I stayed in Orlando to go to the concert. We bought 20 tickets, 10 each, the maximum you could get. They cost $16.35 a piece and we sold them to friends for $20.

Not much of a scalp.

The Henry Paul band opened for Van Halen, who were supporting the Stones. Only later did I learn that Van Halen opened the two Orlando shows. That was it.

Halen and the Stones, two nights only!

A few songs into Van Halen’s set, David Lee Roth, speaking to the press box down front, shouted, “Do you know what the first thing the newspaper critic with the Elvis Costello haircut is going to write about this show in tomorrow’s paper? How @#$%& up Van Halen was!”

The crowd cheers.

“And you know what the second thing they are going to write is? How @#$%& up the audience was!”

The crowd goes nuts.

“Well, this one’s for the press!” Roth moons the press box, and the band kicked into “So This Is Love?”

The stadium played “London Calling” by The Clash a few minutes before the Stones came out, switching to Duke Ellington’s “Take the ‘A’ Train” as the band finally took the stage:

Mick Jagger in orange football pants, an orange tank top, an orange button-down shirt (completely unbuttoned) and pointy white shoes; Keith Richards in a short leopard coat; Bill Wyman in a yellow suit, standing still the whole time.

I had wriggled my way down to the 30-yard line just before the Stones went on. They opened with “Under My Thumb.” I could only catch glimpses of Mick because everyone else was taller than me. When the song was over, I ran back to my end zone bleacher seats to enjoy the rest of the show.

It would be another eight years before The Rolling Stones returned to tour America. Van Halen was three years away from releasing the best-selling album of their career, 1984.

Their paths would never cross again, but for two nights in Orlando in the fall of ‘81, The Rolling Stones and Van Halen rocked the Tangerine Bowl, and it was good.

Hi Britney,

From evidence listed in the posts above, I conclude that Mick wore the orange pants on October 25, 1981 and the white pants on October 24, 1981.

24 October 1981 Orlando Tangerine Bowl

Mick - lavander jacket, yellow shirt, blue belt/sash, navy blue knee pads white socks

Keith - white t-shirt, blue jeans

Ron - maroon shirt, black leather pants, round sun glasses

Bill- yellow suit, white shirt, no tie

Charlie - wide-stripped purple and blue shirt

25 October 1981 Orlando Tangerine Bowl

Mick - dark orange shirt, light orange pants, dark orange socks, white shoes, orange jacket with green cuffs

Keith - blue jeans, white ripped SMU shirt, leopard jacket, unshaven

Ron - blue mesh shirt, white sneakers, brown pants

Bill- white pants, wide-stripped red, black and white, black & white Nike sneakers,

Charlie -

Opening Act - Van Halen

The Fair Warning Tour (also dubbed the W.D.F.A. Tour) was a 1981 North American concert tour by hard rock band Van Halen in support of their Fair Warning album. Out of the 81 shows, 79 of them were sold out making this one of the most successful Van Halen tours.

The last two shows in Orlando saw the band opening for The Rolling Stones. This would be the last time the band performed as a support act until the The Balance "Ambulance" Tour in 2004.

You are truly incredible Exile. I really wish I had the time to organize these pics chronologically - to map the tour. It deserves that.

Looks like Keith is toking on a doobie in the car with Patti up there.

I wonder if Jagger ever rolled out the water-hose like up there, and turned on the water, and then barely got any pressure; like just a trickle, LOL
