Which album is the Stones' most 'filler-free'?
Posted by: StonedAsia ()
Date: January 23, 2016 04:23

Was chatting with a mate and this subject came up. In the end, we both agreed that Let It Bleed is probably their most 'filler-free' album, at least the best we could come up since copious amounts of alcohol were involved. smileys with beer

Any ideas or personal prefs out there?

Let It Bleed, Sticky Fingers and Some Girls, only 1 filler on each album (Country Honk, You Gotta Move and maybe Lies on SG)

only 'Short and Curlies' (major filler, the quintessence of what it means to be filler)

1."If You Can't Rock Me" 3:46
2."Ain't Too Proud to Beg" (Norman Whitfield/Eddie Holland) 3:30
3."It's Only Rock 'n Roll (But I Like It)" (Inspiration Ronnie Wood) 5:07
4."Till the Next Goodbye" 4:37
5."Time Waits for No One" (Contributions by Mick Taylor (Uncredited)) 6:37
6."Luxury" 5:00
7."Dance Little Sister" 4:11
8."If You Really Want to Be My Friend" 6:16
9."Short and Curlies" 2:43
10."Fingerprint File" 6:33

Looking at the UK versions, I'd say December's Children. Even though two of the songs are live, they're still fantastic. I would have gone for The Rolling Stones, Now, but Surprise, Surprise is a bit of a letdown. Seriously, Exile does not have any song on it that I fast forward through.

I don't think Exile on Main Street has filler. Neither does Let It Bleed, Beggar's Banquet or Sticky Fingers.
On Some Girls, Lies is the only filler, and on Tattoo You, Hang Fire.
On Aftermath (UK), I would call Going Home a bit weak, but I don't think "filler" is the right word for it: "a daring thing to do that didn't work out and ended up funny buy a bit boring" maybe.

Country Honk is filler? Maybe it's just me, but I love that song.

Neither Country Honk nor You Gotta Move are filler.

Mixed Emotions, on the other hand, is filler, making Steel Wheels 100% filler, unique for a stones album ( on Dirty work at least Harlem Shuffle was non-filler).

Lies is filler.

I have always loved Country Honk, even more than the better known electric version (HTW).

You Gotta Move, filler? I think not.

But I do like Steel Wheels. Among their best? No. But I like it.

Dear Doctor is filler, in my opinion, yet Country Honk isn't.

Was just going to say the same thing about You Gotta Move but can't agree about Mixed Emotions. And I have mixed emotions about Lies. And things change with the passing years...I used to skip Faraway Eyes now I love it

I view the Stones as on par with the Beatles. The idea that the Stones albums are so good that whatever songs might be filler are great on on any other band's albums. At least that's the case up to the Undercover album.

Most filler album:
Decembers Children

Most ''filler-free''
Beggars Banquet
Some Girls (still not one of their best albums)

Country Honk is more filler than Dear Doctor, imo, as it was an inferior acoustic version of an already released single.

I love it just the same, though.

Every/almost every Stones-album has its fillers. On a good day I´d consider Dirty Work the most filler-free Stones-record. Undercover comes very close.

Beggars Banquet
