What are your thoughts on this live album?

Apart from Shattered (I have NEVER understood the love for this drone, even though it has, I suppose, quite clever lyrics), I really think this is live Stones (almost) at their best. GYYYO is better, but TEXAS is awesome, mainly for its tracklist. My only gripe, bar the aforementioned song, is Jaggers sometimes tough guy vocal delivery. They suit the songs, but it's not my preferred Mick vocal style, that's all. Top album though.

A rock 'n roll band at work.
Not just a rock 'n roll band, but the Greatest.
In the world.

I am not a big fan of the DVD, mainly because Mick seems to be too much obsessed to compete
with the angry young men (or maybe Johnny Rotten?), but the music is brilliantly energetic.

This is best of the vault releases (together with Charlie Is My Darling), imo.

A marvellous show, with most of the tracks from one of my favourite albums, performed brilliantly, in the setlist.

The sound on all the formats is excellent.

A weird thing about the vinyl is that an excerpt of Miss You (from this show) is played as the intro. That is a headscratcher.

Lovely album, one of their best live albums ever

It has the greatest performance of Beast Of Burden ever. It's phenomenal.

BTW: No horns on this show.
I only miss them during All down the line.

Yes! Beast of Burden here is IMO the single most incredible stones performance ever!

I could listen to that messed up Let it Rock every day for the rest of my life!

Great show/release...though Love in Vain, brown sugar and JJF are weak IMO.
I know dandie gets a big hard-on during this period so i have to be positive

I think this live album, along with Tattoo You, is their best release recorded since Goats Head Soup.

By far one of (if not definitely) my favorite live Stones album, maybe only behind the Rattlesnake version of Brussels Affair. The band sounds so tight, even when they're sloppy. Plus 'Miss You' is fantastic without that happy pop keyboard solo...

Stripped down and back to basics, gotten rid of the clever bastards like Nicky and Billie - much as I love 'em. Awesome sound and love the visuals, '78 sure was great.

*the guitars on this are probably the most beautiful I've heard- my God.
This is my favorite song, there is NO 'lesser' version anywhere to me, just having another play of it slightly Stones different is gold/manna. Zipcode w/ Ed the redheaded kid thrilled me, played it over/over.
After eating Leeds '82 Beast of Burden daily for weeks, got to say my Mick's voice is in better shape (and even I hear last show weary in Leeds '82) plus in Leeds he tangents 'chicka chicka chicka' and says 'I love you baby' twice.
Can't get to listen to full Texas '78 proper again until Sunday.

The bit about JJF being weak is because it's the third tour of them playing it like the way they do (and have ever since), with Mick taking a dump and the lumpy riffage that has been on cruise control ever since.

Performance wise it's killer. Just as the did on the 1975 and 1976 tours, it's played very fast and sloppy; the swagger of 1969-1971 is gone. 1973 it started to get lumpy but wasn't so goddamned fast.

Ronnie's guitar is higher than Keith's in the mix.

Supreme live album though, the best of the Ronnie era; when it still really mattered. They played as if their career was in the balance of being completely shut off - perhaps they did feel something like that considering the history of that time. Content wise and considering the tour it's in an essence their best live album.

Mick's ball-grabbing and flirting with Wood is strange and makes it almost un-watchable. If I wanted to watch guys ass-grab I'd head out to the crowbar.

Haha, well, I was a little disappointed that the Rattlesnake issue didn't have 'Heartbreaker'...

Just watched this for the first time in quite a while and damn, is it good! I used to think I preferred the 1981 tour but now I'm thinking they were alot more on fire in 1978! And to think that at the time (78) some people were already moaning that the Stones were "too old!" If they could only have foreseen how much longer they'd be rolling! Love In Vain was my fave! There's also sentimental value as 78 was my first Stones concert.

Yes, Stones on top, the best rhythm and blues band on earth. The best and purest line-up I can imagine prescinding that MT is not there, the guitars are starring and nothing else. Ian McLagan on keyboards is a winner, far away from the plink plonk excesses nowadays. Raw and irresistible.

Could be great if there werent so many SG-songs. Imo, most live albums songwise and musically are better than this one, even YaYa´s is better. Glorious L.A. Friday sits on top of all live albums, followed by extremely powerful and vital Shine A Light.

Really? I think it's great that the Stones were showing off their fantastic new album. This is a great release for people who moan about hearing the same warhorses over and over, imo.

Anything live from '78 is great, this is my favorite live Stones era. Fantastic live versions, and really the only time period I like 'Shattered' live is from '78. Also '78 is when they did Let It Rock the best too, a great opening track - what a way to showcase Keith & Ronnie!!

Love this one. Feel like they stripped down to being a raunchy, guitar band; Keith and Ronnie were clicking; the new songs gave them some extra spark; love BOB. Kind of a comeback from the excess of the '75 tour and you could feel them trying to make a statement.
