Its a 70 hour drive from Porto Alegre to Lima by car (forget trucks) - about the same time asa the gap between shows. Santiago to Buenos Aires is 24 hours or more, with many hairpin bends over the Andes. I agree from BA to MV to Rio to SP is truckable, reliably.
Big bands fly their gear outside of North America and Europe.

The amount of equipment they can transport from one venue to another is severely limited due to distances, mountains, Amazon, customs, bandits etc. - ie assume no road travel. It was my second Stones concert, first show was Munich. 34 years ago and the boys are still rockin' the house!
Poor Peter Maffay... although I don't like his music I think that was very unfair.
