DCChris, I wholeheartedly agree - Brussels Affair is in it's own league.

theres 4 other reasons why thats the best Stones live bootleg

Its not "just" The Mick Taylor Show

The whole band are at their peak on that one

Brussels Affair is obviously one of the all-time great Stones boots.....but for Mick's singing....'72 tour has '73 beat....just compare his vocals on Ft.Worth Express '72 or Ladies & Gents soundtrack to Brussels '73.....less growling

Saw the video of Midnight Rambler on rs.com from Pecto.....

Ronnie playing very little guitar - Keith doing the big job....

That's probably also a reason nowadays and a diffrence to fx. 1973...... Ronnie not too much present during the shows, Mick T playing quite much guitar during the shows....

Just wonder why..... was Mick T playing a clown onstage in 70'ies.....??? Can't imagine.....

Is it on purpose Ronnie playing clown instead of guitar????

Yes, same here, it´s great. The best show with Taylor (for me).
First heard in 1991, my first bootleg CD.

But as Gazza said, the WHOLE band rocks (Midnight Rambler is
the one song I would like to play to all of those Stoneshaters).

But for my likes there are better shows with Ronnie.

Brussels is great, but I like Philadelphia Special better, especially Gimme Shelter versions. Of course Ya Ya's is untouchable.

I would concur with this...15 years delayed in replying, mind you I don't think I was posting then. Maybe 'lurking'.

Agreed, it has more bite, played faster. The Brussels version sounds a bit more tranquillised and like DP pointed out, better sound quality that could be a bit misleading compared to some '72 recordings.

I had a Saturday job at Sainsbury's supermarket around 1979/80 so I had to rely on my mates to go up to central London once a month for record fairs. I'd give them a tenner and they'd come back with a bootleg. The quality varied (Reggae and Roll was not the best - I think the buggers stitched me up with that one) But one month they came back with Bedspring Symphony. Incredible!

Many years later, I downloaded Brussels Affair in MP3 - as I find FLAC a technical challenge and at my age I wasn't sure sure I would hear the difference. It's great but I was used to the takes of HTW and Doo Doo Doo Doo Doo that were used on Bedspring and I still prefer them to the 'Affair' versions.

Now I've bought the Super Deluxe and so I can hear it in CD quality - when i get moment to myself smiling smiley

Ultimately my take on the gig is that it's a brilliant listening experience until the last few songs - JJF, Rip this Joint and SFM are so bloody frantic that there's not a lot of swinging going on - the band are in danger of being all rock and no roll at that point.

Nonetheless - a classic. The other peach my mates brought me was Garden State '78. Happy days...

Of course it's great, but we get a bit fooled by the excellent sound. Regarding energy and performance I prefer some of the 1972 shows.
You sir are a very wise man as the excellent sound most certainly is a huge factor !

Best version of Tumbling Dice ever. I love Ronnie but he is not Mick Taylor on guitar.

Yeah, the show lack the energy from '72. Also there are performances from the winter tour that really compliments the versions from the American tour. Frome Europe '73 I think ie. the London shows are far better than Brussels. GS and MR from the official Brussels Affair is good, but I rarely play the rest of the songs on the album.

I have spoken to others that feel the same way about the London shows as well . Makes me wish I was there for the London shows just to compare apples and oranges .

I will have to take a close listen to the London show but for me the Brussels version of Rambler is about as close to perfection as you can get.

UPDATE: street fighting man the best version I have ever heard. Feral! Visceral! Unbelievable they played that fast. My journey home from work needs to be longer to listen to more. Tumbling Dice almost sounds like a different song.
Obviously, the virtuosic guitars on Brussels are mostly Mick Taylor???

Has anyone invented a time machine where we can go back and see the whole show….
