Probably one of the worst gigs the Stones have done. Unfortunately.

I agree, although there are a couple of interesting renditions (I Got The Blues and Live With Me mainly), imo. At least there are some interesting passages in them, and I like the stop in Live With Me – and Bobby's playing on those tracks, of course.

There is nothing average, subpar or bad in these renditions. I think "Marquee" is a marvelous release, good to have that gig finally in decent quality.

Not being the greatest fan of Mick Taylor, I have to say that his playing is excellent on this one. Keith looks very healthy despite his rather unhealthy lifestyle at that time.

Very good show - at least to me. The band plays solid rock'n roll throughout. Like the rawness too. Also I like the fact it's quite short in time (38 min. for the main tracks). It means it's perfect for a vinyl release and the vinyl sounds great! Definitely the version to get. To me one of the best Stones release of this year.

This is the gig (with a possible exception for the LA 1975 DVD) where Keith is at his most wasted. Look at him on Midnight Rambler.

I like the performance of "Dead Flowers" on this. Mick Taylor's playing on it is good.

Better than Fort Worth 1972 and Leeds 1971?

For me, this one is a bit like the Rock 'n' Roll Circus -- a gem because it is the only available film material of a certain era in the Stones history, where their rather mediocre playing really tells what a wicked band they were after all in those days.

they are all good. i haven't listened to all 3 side by side. i think that the band was performing very well in this time period and have yet to find a recording from 69-71 where i'm not impressed and happy to have listened, and I include very rough bootlegs from early in the 69 tour when i say that. much prefer most of that to the 72 tour (too much noodling from taylor, songs played too fast, lead singer more focused on stage act than singing) 75 and 78 (lead singer barks and shouts too much.)

My favorite Stones live recordings are the '71 shows. 'Satisfaction,' especially... It is typically NOT a song I look forward to at a show or on other live recordings, but on this mini-tour, it was just superb, and came to life in a way it never would again. I can listen to that wonderful version over and over and not get tired of it.

Strangely I really enjoy listening to the CD more than watching the BluRay. I really like it. What's odd is that there are a few takes of I Got The Blues and Mick Jagger never gets it right. Bill is great on Live With Me.

Mick has a cold. They spliced those takes which made the album version.

On the background of the other gigs with MT from this time a little bit tired, but only on that background. If we have nothing more from this period we would be pleased to get those recordings.

Agreed...that's the one I'm most familiar with from youtube and here on this blog.

Have to say Keith looks energetic but quite pale in the video...unless that's simply the subpar quality of the video.

Well, don't forget Hyde Park 1969 either.
Unfortunately their performance was under par on that day also.

No wonder the recordings stayed in the vaults for so long.
Maybe its now a case of who cares as long as there is some profit to be made?

The problem of this live album is the duration.
But it's a great documentary of the 1971 tour.
I prefer Live at Leeds from the same tour; there is a particual harmony between Taylor and Richards, listen to Stracy Cat Blues!

Show is playing right now on KCET in Los Angeles (and probably PBS stations across the country)
Just a tremendous great surprise. I know you've all seen it and so have I, but it's fun to see it pop up on TV and a lot of younger fans will get their first exposure I bet. It seems Mick voice goes to complete hell somewhere along the way tho...

Doh it's part of a PBS pledge drive. Now I get why they're showing this...but they ARE showing it in large segments. They are selling "The Very Best of The Rolling Stones 1964-1971" for $72. and $120. for the dvd of the show. endless sales pitch now. Enough. and for $150. you get....sigh

It has I Got The Blues ... 3 times!!! That alone makes it great!

I saw the 38 minutes of the very well restored Marquee show on
PBS today.

Enjoyed it very much. To see and hear Mick T and Wyman again was close to
thrilling. I miss them both. Bobby Keys was at his best. This 38 minutes
had been fairly recently brought up to par by fresh editing.

My impression was that the entire band were enjoying themselves in the small, hot,sweaty Marquee.

Was this the gig that Keith was in a foul mood and swung his guitar at somebody, pissed off about some banner or something. Wouldn't come out for a second show and Jagger took an hour to talk him into appearing.

Strange that I don't play this one very often. Really like I Got The Blues and love that version of Satisfaction. Overall I'm happy with the release, but I think it's more for us hard core fans. Glad it finally came out.
