Two British actors in lead roles. Daisy Ridley and John Boyega. I wonder if it is deliberate or just coincidence. Daisy Ridley does have a genuine sexiness to her. I do have a weakness for brunettes with pony tails.

Please, I much prefer the last. Heck, I'll even take a grande drip with room for cream, my go to Starbucks choice.

This movie is sooooo over hyped. We even had a reporter today at the school where I teach taking pics for a story on Star Wars themed teaching strategies in education.
Ugh.

If someone in 1977 (A New Hope) or 1983 (Return of the Jedi) told me that in 2015

The Stones would be touring and recording a new album
Springsteen would be touring off a massive release
Star Wars and James Bond would be in the theatres
Trudeau would be Prime Minister
Bush would be running for President
The Royals would win the World Series
Les Canadiens would be fighting for in first place
Donald Trump would still be a major douchebro, and
The McRib would be back

[mcriblocator.com]

I wouldn't hardly believe them . . . unless their name was McFly.

Next thing you know, someone's going to be telling me about Tusk being rereleased as a 5 LP box set. Wait, what?

It's hard to feel nostalgic about shit that just never goes away.

There is now talk of Oscar nominations from the early viewers at the premiere. Here is some of the conversation from Scott Feinberg at the Hollywood Reporter:

"But for now, as I read tweets from Academy members to the effect that it "might be the best blockbuster since the original... delivers on every level" (from doc branch member Brett Morgen) and that it "totally delivers... just wow" (acting branch member Elizabeth Banks) and that it's "a movie that DELIVERS... cried like a baby, whooped like a teen!" (acting branch member Rob Lowe), I think The Force Awakens stands a great shot of firing up a lot of people."

I saw the original Star Wars on opening night by accident. I was hanging out in Hollywood with nothing better to do, saw this line in front of the Grouman's Chinese Theater and decided to check it out. The line was already around the block about 2 hours before showtime, I'm surprised I got in. Never even heard of Star Wars before that day.

Seeing it on Thursday. After the 3 last movies, I'm not getting my hopes up.

Seeing that Lucas has nothing to do with this one I bet it'll blow SW 1, 2 and 3 into a forgotten history. Although I did like 3.

Last three Star Wars films SUCKED and this one stars a chick and a black guy.
Sorry, I'm just not feeling it.

SW 5 and 6 starred a chick and a black guy...

I saw the original Star Wars on opening night by accident . . .

I had a similar experience, although we had heard of it and read a Time Magazine article that compared Star Wars with the production of 2001: a Space Odyssey.

Star Wars was playing at my local Cinerama, two blocks from home. I was 15 and out with four of my friends, we smoked a joint and then noticed this long line, so we went to the end of it. We ended up sitting in the front row in order to get seats together--with really no idea what to expect. The jump to hyperspeed completely blew us away, and we all sat there: "whoaaa . . ."

I think we all went back the next day to see it again.

I hear you (throw in the 'new' Beatles 1 release for good measure). But at least the positive thing from the list is the Stones (even got a another Keith Richards solo album in out of the whole thing).

Today is the premiere opening in France. According to reports, France has a rule that mandates all movies must open on a Wednesday.

The UK opening is on Thursday.

The USA opening is on Friday.

But the United Arab Emirates, host of some of the filming beat us all with a Tuesday opening.

Please StonedInTokyo, I think your remark about the tone of skin of one of the main actors should be reconsidered. (I suppose your remark about the lady in question could be offensive too, but since my wife is always flattered when I call her "chick" maybe that's not as bad).

Not trying to offend, merely pointing out the casting reeks of Disney PC. Like I said, I am very skeptical about this film because the last three have SUCKED. Hope I'm wrong and this is the reboot the franchise needs to get back on track.

Racist!

I saw the midnight screening last night. It was wonderful and actually made me feel like a kid again, which is such a rare, precious thing.

I haven't smiled so much and been taken away from reality so far since I last saw The Stones from the pit over a year ago.

I was in the pit in Brisbane - the last ever pit show!

And yes, people were cheering throughout the film and at the end.

I was highly entertained and impressed.

Incredible job by JJ Abrams managing to have it be fresh, and with plenty of nods to the first film without crossing the line.
Great plot, great action, Harrison Ford just killing it again as Han Solo and fun, exitement and emotional stuff.

I was very positively surprised and look forward to the next installments.

And absolutely rooting for Mick to be the Big villain in 10-12 once the Stones stop touring or something ;-)

A Bush was Vice President in 1983, when Return of the Jedi was released, as I recall.

And in 1976 George Bush was head of the CIA.

Today is the UK premiere. Are the moviegoers dressing up in costume like they do over in the US? Can anyone post any tabloid stories or pictures on the movie.
