another installment of the 'Springsteen paradox' in Gelsenkirchen last night. The man surely has a message (rather more than one) but turns everything into party music and sheer entertainment. Thus the crowd is not enabled to reflect but to party instead.
(I really suffered)

I'm looking forward to the GNR party a week from now. You know, party music and sheer entertainment!

too many (and too long) instrumental parts and some not so well known songs (preventing people from singing along all the time)

Maybe they were reflecting on the message instead of singing along! winking smiley

GnR's basic message is hedonism and self pitying…

Sounds like you still didn't suffer as much as you did with Bruce.

Ordered - 90 quid for 4x vinyl and blu ray. Electric Nebraska is the grail, in an early summer interview he’d forgotten it exists

I just read this today. Its about @#$%&' time! Although I suspected that Nebraska would see an expanded edition with the upcoming release of the Deliver Me From Nowhere biographical film. Nebraska still is my #1 Springsteen record.

Sounds like he was channeling Neil Young’s ‘ripped from the headlines’ approach that produced Ohio for CSNY.

Isn't that exactly what Woody Guthrie said any folk/protest singer should be able to do?

Bruce has said recently that he has suffered writer's block for the last decade or so. Listening to "Streets of Minneapolis" it is clear that he is correct. The politics of the song aside, it's sophistry that sounds like it was written by a middle schooler.

Its pretty common that later in the career the muse is just gone for these artists. Disappointing with Bruce because he was so inspired for so long, and I really do contend his run of creativity from 02-07 was stronger or equal to most at his age. So he's earned the right to be lazier. But its sad that he hasn't really written much of value in 15 years. Even more recent projects that were great like Western Stars and Letter To You date back way earlier than they were released.

All kudos to Bruce for taking a stand. Remember being apolitical is also being political.

Considering the song references events that happened a few days before it was recorded with a full band, saying it is not his best work is utterly missing the point. Saying it is like it was "written by a middle schooler" is just way off.

Bruce wrote a very pointed protest song and performed it and recorded it with the full band backing him is a ridiculously short time. It is not something I could do, and it is not something most artists could pull off. Kudos to Bruce Springsteen for writing and recording a relevant, meaningful, rocking song with depth and poignancy at age 76, 54 years into his recording career. The Boss simply continues to kick ass when most artists his age are long done.
