No disrespect, but I think these articles and essays can explain Elvis's influence better than I can:

He is NOT the king!!! Chuck Berry is the King!!!

plexi

thumbs upthumbs upthumbs up

And where does that leave Little Richard?

Elvis is the King, Chuck is the Godfather and Little Richard the Queen.

I always pictured Little Richard as a princess. Aretha is the Queen.

Yes Elvis was lacking some of the musical skills that other rockers had. But Elvis is known by so many people in the world that, that fact alone makes him the KING.
Eddie Cochran had everything a super rocker could dream of but nobody knows who he is, unfortunately. World notoriety has to be one of the major elements that makes a king "THE KING".
Rockandroll,

why was Elvis the king. King of rock and roll? not very many of his songs were.
Good singer and entertainer but hey he tripped out big time

Because Elvis was the first true "rock star". Elvis didn't create rock and roll, nor was he the first to have a rock and roll hit, nor was he even the first white person to have a rock and roll hit. But he was the one to bring that style of music into the mainstream and opened the door for black music. And artists like Chuck Berry and Little Richard expressed a lot of respect for what he did in that regard.

No, Elvis wasn't a songwriter. By no means was he particularly proficient on the instruments he did play (primarily guitar and piano), though his skills were adequate for what he was doing. His talents were in his incredibly diverse voice that was capable of tackling any style of music he wanted, as well as his unparalleled charisma and stage presence that very few could match.

Yes, Elvis is the King.

Couldn't let the day slide by without giving a shout out for Ms. White. May we all live to be so cool.

God, I remember when she was 90 and hosting SNL. What a legend. Love that woman and always will.

What an awesome, hilarious, ballsy lady. She's had an incredible career...The Mary Tyler Moore Show and Golden Girls are still among my favorite sitcoms of all time.

She hasn't been in the public eye much the last couple of years...understandable of course. I hope she's well and enjoying her semi-retirement.

To get old in her way is a true blessing. Best wishes to you Betty.

Mister Nelson's latest album has some great songs on it which a number of IORR members can probably relate to. What's amazing is that he's released over 90 some albums. C'mon Stones...time to catch up.
