Elvis and "the boys" spent some time in Paris and had a wild time. The Lido showgirls would all go over to Elvis hotel and the Lido manager would have to send someone over to get them back so they could do their floorshow. I think this was during a 2 week pass that EP had. The pic of Elvis and Bill Haley was taken during this time. He still never performed in Europe and very much wanted to. That was why he was so anxious to get a federal agent credential from Nixon. He thought that with it he could carry weapons and drugs across international borders and at the time he was planning to tour Europe and Japan in the coming year. Tom Parker turned the tour into the Hawaii satellite special in '73. No visas required.

Elvis signed a management contract with Bob Neal January 1, 1955. Elvis was 19. On June 17, 1955, Parker convinced Neal to let him handle all of Elvis bookings. Parker of course eventually assumed full management. Parker's credibility came from having formed a management team with Hank Snow, Hank Snow Attractions. It was Hank Snow who introduced Presley to Parker.

Elvis was controversial early in his career. The dancing, the clothes, the music. Maybe Elvis was grateful that Parker helped increase his mass appeal and acceptability. Also, he didn't impede the '68 comeback special, the Memphis sessions, and allowed Elvis to go back to touring. The Vegas stands weren't a bad idea. They had lower costs and were accessible to the entire West Coast audience.

Elvis thrived on challenges, which the '68 Special certainly was. His stints in

Las Vegas served a purpose initially but all the guys in the Memphis Mafia said

that after doing it for a few years he came to hate it (no longer a challenge).

By '74 he was chomping at the bit to tour the world but the Colonel wouldn't go

for it, and years later we learned why.

And on March 24, 2020 (give or take a day or two), Elvis will have been dead for as long as he was alive.
