I live in the UK, and unlike most UK-based Killer fans, I prefer his country stuff to the rockabilly / rock'n'roll stuff.

I find the honky tonk Another Place Another Time, 39 & Holdin' etc more to my taste than Big Blon' Bay, Lovin Up A Storm, Whole Lotta Shakin'erc: there's way more emotional depth to the country stuff.

However, one of my favourite albums by any artist is Southern Roots. OK, so Huey P Meaux was a vile character, but Jerry Lee really cuts the mustard on that album. It never went anywhere, though, as both country and rock charts ignored it.

One more ting: the recently deceased Chas Hodges was one of the first to duet with Jerry Lee Lewis on a cover of Bad Moon Rising from the London Sessions album.

Can't let the day pass without noting EP's birth date. Gotta remember he was an inspiration to the wee lad called Keith Richards. So, EP, thanks. And here's the tune KR said in "Life", if I remember right, that alerted the wee lad to a whole different way.

It's kind of amazing to think he might still be alive today had he not self-destructed.

I don’t have the exact numbers and right now I’m too lazy to look them up.
What I think is an amazing fact is, as famous as Elvis was worldwide her never performed a concert outside of North America. Most were done in The United States and a handful in Canada if that.

Regarding Virgil's note about Elvis never performing outside of the United States and Canada, this was because of his manager, Colonel Parker. Parker had entered the United States illegally when he was younger and was afraid to let Elvis leave the country to tour for fear that he (Parker) wouldn't be able to get back into the United States if he went on tour with Elvis. Parker also kept Elvis on the Vegas treadmill due to his (Parker's) gambling problem. To say Elvis was underserved by Parker (along with many others around him) is to say the least.

Elvis performed in Hawaii 1973!
Colonel Parker “Dries van Kuijk”,was in silence about his Dutch background!!

Yes I know that and it's another 4899 miles from New-York

Aside from his National Service in Germany and a plane-stop on an airfield somewhere in Scotland, Elvis never set foot in Europe or the U.K. It’s almost tragic. He was so incredibly huge outside of North America and he wanted to perform here.

Happy birthday, Elvis. It's a shame Col Tom Parker ruined Elvis career with all

those pointless movies, weak song selections and treadmill tour itineraries. He

was simply bored to death at 42.

Don't want to sound too harsh, but he had only himself to blame.
He could have left The Colonel. Loads of opportunities would have then opened up for him.

Elvis was trapped in a lifelong abusive relationship with The Colonel thru which he was exploited. In the later years, Elvis did find the courage to say it was over, but the Colonel would then go to Vernon and show him it would cost the Presley's several million dollars to sever their ties to him. Vernon would then talk Elvis out of it. I'm not a fan of The Colonel at all. He was a straight up con man and manipulator.
