IORR changes - suggestions please!
Posted by: bv ()
Date: November 10, 2015 20:48

I am working on a list of possible changes for IORR, in a positive way. Anything that will improve the value of IORR for Rolling Stones fans will be on this list. This goes for both this forum Tell Me as well as all other parts of IORR.

Please post your suggestion for a better Rolling Stones IORR fan site here, or feel free to send me an e-mail at:

iorr@arena.no

The changes will happen within the next couple of months.

Thanks!

What about a section to the forum devoted entirely to off topic posts? I've seen many other message boards dedicated to other artists do that. Is the fear that the off topic section will get much more traffic than the Stones-related section?

Having a way to "like" posts. There is a lot of clutter created by me and others simply saying "I agree" however it is important to encourage productive and thoughtful posts.

Make banning and reporting people transparent so someone can see why they were reported, and why they were banned.

Welcoming back long time posters who were banned. Some people posted on here for years and then got banned because of one or two posts. They should be welcomed back.

Would it be possible for the "new" indicator on the main list of the threads to be a link which would take the user to the first "new" post in the thread that the user hasn't read? Does that make sense? Having a link to the most recent post is great, but, especially if I haven't logged in for a few days, it would be great if we could quickly get to the first post we haven't read.

If anyone who understands what I'm trying to get at thinks they can articulate it better than I have done, please do so!

Thanks for everything bv. Thanks especially for being willing to listen to us critique your site!

Peace,
Mr DJA

Bjornulf, first I want to say thanks for this great website. As I'm a web developer myself I know what huge amount of time it takes to keep everything working, clearing the forum and so on.

Suggestions for changes could be:

- You could give the concert lists a more current look. For example you could try around with the table and the color of it as well as the font. I suppose it's Times New Roman now, you could try out Arial.
- Maybe try Arial as well on the News page.
- As I'm a fan of detailed rehearsal reports, it would be great to have a rehearsal page of the Paris 2012 rehearsals with song lists and so on too (I can't find it anywhere here)

Thanks for giving us the opportunity to give our suggestions.

Ditto for me. I also agree with embedding youtube vids again. I disagree about an off topic section. One of the charms of IORR Tell Me is that you never know what you're going to find here, and I don't really like segregating conversations or having to float around to other sections. Also, like buttons always seem so immpersonal to me, again I like seeing encouraging comments and if there's nothing to be added, the thumbs up works well.

Thanks for asking, Bjornulf. thumbs up grinning smiley

Many of the points raised above could be very simply accomplished by migrating to a Wordpress or similar system - I used to work in freelance webdesign and implemented systems like this all the time (in addition to designing custom systems, but I'm afraid I don't have the time for that any more, otherwise would happily volunteer). In reality, you can do this yourself without hiring a coder or anything, the only issue might be migrating exiting accounts and posts.

In terms of suggestions: Would LOVE to be able to get push notifications of news/blog posts to my phone, via email if an iPhone app isn't possible - if I don't have time to check the site, don't want to miss any big Stones news! Would also give us the chance to more easily share if there is a surprise gig or something like that.

If you want, I can put you in touch with some top class webdesigners / coders?

Keep on keepin' on.

I'm just so happy it is just the way it is now.

So easy to navigate for an internet nerd like me. smileys with beer

The site is great as it is. Perhaps the possibility of just dragging in and uploading a sound file directly into a post would save us a lot of time in our nerdy musical discussions? smiling smiley

I was going to suggest this.
It is still possible to embed videos but you have to remove the 's' from 'https' when posting and then you have to "load unsafe scripts" (or similar depending on which browser you use) in order to see them.

One of the beauties of this site is its 'cleanliness' in terms of lack of advertising or any pop ups as well as ease of navigation. So, as others have said, keep it largely unchanged. It's just a click away.....

Speed and easy use will always be number one priority. I will never take that away. Also, I woill not be able to handle a separate Off Topic forum, that will take too much time to manage. This was just some quick feedback, thanks for the suggestions, please keep them coming!

I am only interested in NEW show reviews. I have read all the old ones since The Bridges To Babylon Tour. Archive all past show reviews in one link bv, that's a lot of work but will make lots of room.

As mentioned many times above, the ability to embed videos that can be played on page without having to disable anything.
Not that the disabling thing is too much to deal with, but waaay back in the good old days (4-5 months ago? haha) you could see it straight away.

Other than that, no changes necessary imo.
