OT: 'Phil Collins must be stopped'

"There is far too much suffering in the world as it is. This must be stopped".

LUKE MORGAN BRITTON, 6TH NOVEMBER 2015

Phil Collins' planned return to music has been protested by some fans, with a petition launched to 'stop' him coming out of retirement.

The former Genesis drummer recently announced that "no longer officially retired", telling Rolling Stone that he is working on a solo album ahead of a comeback tour.

The petition – titled 'Phil Collins must be stopped' – has been set up by Brian Pee from New York, who writes in the petition: "Phil Collins has announced he is 'no longer in retirement'. There is far too much suffering in the world as it is. This must be stopped."

At the time of publishing, 2,443 people have signed the petition. See it here.

This is pointless and sad.
Phil Collins can do whatever he wants do.

There is far too much suffering in the world to waste time and energy on a petition like this.

It's a good example of negativity and hate on the internet, as Björnulf recently and rightly pointed out.

I'd like to see this thread deleted.

The return of Bongohead....since he can't drum anymore I'm sure there will be lots of tambourine action.

I had to endure a lot from Phil Collins in the early eighties... Discotheques playing it all night, with Culture Club and Wham!

Could't find an honest honky tonk woman around (pun intented)

Buch of idiots saying the Stones were dead

Boy, that was suffering.

The up front splashy snare drum sound of the 80's I associate with Phil. I am not sure if he or Peter Gabriel came up with that idea but it stuck through the 80's and made me dislike a lot of that decade's music.

Didn't Noel Gallagher once quip that everyone should vote Labour, or Phil Collins 'may come back'?

It's not pointless or sad it's a dumb joke. Some people think it's funny; you don't. All that is fine and normal. What's weird is you want to shut sown what you don't like. Because you don't think it's funny the thread should be shut down. To me, it is your attitude that is abusive.

You should've stayed out of those places. Bad choices. It left you... always suffering. So no more... no more.

Really. I agree. It's like, against all odds, Phil Collins has made a comeback.

In the early nineties, on the other hand, "In the Air Tonight" was banned by the BBC (not permanently though, unfortunately).

As long as he sings for absent friends, I'm ok with it.

Roots music?

As in Americana?
Roots Reggae?
Folk music?
Celtic roots?

Or all of the above?

HAHAHA!!!! Now that's really funny!! If you don't care for Collins (I love alliteration), then don't listen to his music. But to start a campaign seems stupid and mean spirited to me, unless you're just an attention whore. Look at me, my name is Pee!! HAHAhaaaa!!

Sorry...I probably just need to take a bathroom break now....

I was actually joking but who knows what tricks Mr. Collins could have up his sleeve. I seriously hope he is not planning a greatest hits of the 80's show however likely that probably is. He might be just looking at acts like the Stones and thinking, I can do a nostalgia set with the best of them and it would sure be lucrative.

He could do all of that, or more Motown covers, or go down the Rod Stewart American songbook route...either way count me out.cool smiley

But but...what if he decided to take the Keith Richards approach? Some heartfelt ballads, and well produced and more organic sounding rock? He can probably still sing and play pretty well. It's the production and pop sensibilities that most people don't like about him and what I hope he sheds this time out.

I"m sure he saw that albums aren't selling anymore so there's little royalties coming in. I didn't realize he was officially retired. Who knows, maybe a Genesis reunion?
I actually saw Phil in concert back in the late 80's in Vancouver at the Coliseum. Don't remember much about it but I do recall that his son Simon, who was living in Vancouver, came on and played drums for Easy Lover.
