Interesting reading about the half-speed mastering technique. One thing that stood out is how it is able to transfer high frequencies so that they are then properly converted into mid-range offering more of a true transfer of the analog tapes. I will say that my brother and myself listened again last night and one thing that really stood out is how much more the horns on this pressing are not shifted from high frequency, which often had them somewhat lost with the guitars, to a mid-range where you here how much the horns were used a a rhythm support. A lot of horns audible that I had not heard before. Throughout Tumbling Dice you really hear them being used to carry the rhythm with the guitars. Fantastic! And sublime!

Another great thing is that the piano also is far more full and a mid-range component instead of a high frequency, which somewhat buried them in the previous pressings. The half-speed mastering is fantastic and practically a flawless pressing!

Isn't it amazing to hear new instruments and handclaps in an album we have listened to hundreds of times?

Sorry guys, but it is listed as a pre-order. I don't think they are getting them. I think that they have sold out.

I hope not...,
but maybe they have ordered themselves a couple of copies from Abey Road Studios, otherwise they also would say on their site "sold out", wouldn't they?
Or -because of the fast selling- there's gonna be a second edition?

The new EOMS is excellent but upwards of $200? It was worth the $57 I paid for sure. Holy macaroni!

I still suspect it is now out of print. I ordered another copy from UMv a while ago, and nothing. No response on my inquiries about the order. And all the other sites say pre-order, yet it is already out. I luckily ordered directly from Abbey Road back when it was first announced. Strange how fast it has become unavailable!

As apparently it's the same remaster used as source, has anyone compared the half speed mastered reissue to the 2010 vinyl reissue?

I did. No comparison. This half-speed master is amazing, and completely blows away the 2010 version! It is stellar. It is not the same remaster. It isn't a remaster, and it is using the digital source from the original analog tapes. With no tinkering, no brickwalling, just straight transfer to vinyl.

I was amazed by the crisp and clean sound of this release.

For the very first time, I could hear Taylor's guitar during the middle of the intro on Rocks Off.

It's nice to have a copy where the sound of these songs are cleaned up drastically - very nice thumbs up

Glad to read the new reissue is sounding amazing! However that's the Stephen Marcussen remaster that was used for the reissue. There's a sample of the new vinyl available for download at Steve Hoffman forums : [forums.stevehoffman.tv] Even if I find these files sounding perfectly nice, to me they sound like a remaster (not brickwalled but loud). Also several people over there report that the new vinyl sound is louder than the 1972 original. That's why I don't think they used the straight transfer from the original master tapes that can be found on the 2011 Japan SACD.

It's possible the 2010 vinyl used a brickwalled CD quality (44.1kHz) source. That would explain (in part) why it didn't sound so good.

I don't agree. I have the 72 pressing, and I don't think the halfspeed master is necessarily louder, but more sonically superior, hence you hear a lot you didn't hear before, and there is more clarity. What I find interesting is that as I posted before is that the halfspeed process means that what used to be high frequency and lost in the general mix, now is more midrange so there is more detail from the high frequency. Such as the horns, you hear far more mid-range and how much the horns are playing rhythm in a lot of the songs. Especially on Tumbling Dice. All in all this is a very impressive sounding release. I have a 500 watt amp and very good speakers and had this cranked out with no digital distortion, no limitations in frequencies that were really exposed on the 2010 re-master. And not warbling in the sound when pushed with high power. I am debating now if this is the best even compared to my Japanese import from the 80s.

It looks like this site has copies:

[shop.musicvaultz.com]

I got an email from universalmusic, where I ordered a copy a long while ago saying they were still waiting on stock. So I don't think they are getting it either. Lets see if musicvaultz really has it in stock.
