I was listening to the great early take on Chain Saw Massacre and gained a lot more appreciation for this song and the whole UC album. Keith singing parts as mentioned above in this old thread, and it seems to me that it may be a Keith song with lyrics at least partially inspired by Anita.

The last of their leftover 1970s songs.

I like it. I don't love it. It's different.

When it comes to fighting... it's got some good lyrics in it.

I noticed this...

Well, considering they didn't use everything they recorded in France for EOMS...

What they didnt use was USELESS indeed, as you can easily hear on the EOMS-Bonus-Disc. What a disappointment. Listenable or only the alternate versions, everything else should have stayed in the garbage can. That´s the place where it belongs.

Too Tough is a trillion times better than any "new" song of that awful EOMS-Bonus-Disc.

What a tone-deaf moron. Pass The Wine, Plundered and Signifying are brilliant.

This song from Undercover of the Night is a great rocker, and possibly the best of the entire album. The Keith opening riff is memorable, and Ronnie's guitar work is spot on. Tell me what you think. I love it.

As far as I know it's the only leftover song they used for UUNDERCOVER, Too Tough coming from this BLACK AND BLUE recording that was Cellophane Trousers.

Actually one of my favourite Stones lines ever. And the way Mick 'sings' them... brilliant.

My second favourite cut off this album after Undercover of the Night.

I think it was released as the b-side of a rerelease of Miss You in 1984. I don't remember why that happened, or why it wasn't released as an A-side but may have had to do with album sales dissolving so quickly.

I wonder if the whole 'S&M'-style album cover depressed sales a bit. It's too bad because the poor sales led to solo-mick and Dirty Work.

I really would have liked if they had stayed on this road for another album or two.

Haven't heard this one for a long while. Listening through headphones it comes across as JJF (the riff is there) on steroids. Good listen but nothing I would readily go back to, at least for me.

Agree, I always thought of it as a JJF revival, and not near as good. An okay track though.

aka "Cellophane Trouts" from the 1975 B&B Sessions

Loved it when I first heard it but ultimately a filler, probably why it wasn't used for B&B in the first place.

An outtake has Keith singing the bridge.

Didn't like it when released and do not like it now. It's almost painful to listen to. Is it really Bill and Charlie on bass and drums?
The bass is annoying more than anything else. 80s sound? What a mess...

How is Bill's bass 80s-sounding? His sound is normal to these ears. There are synth drums in there, though.

Listened to it again, Dandy. Nothing wrong with the bass - and it's Bill alright. I guess I just don't like the song. The guitars are sharp and loaded though.

Still can't believe either version CS Blues didn't end up on the Exile reissue in 2010.

Indicative of the entire throwaway album, excepting Undercover of the Night.

Great? One more Chuck Berryish tune to throw on the pile.

By latter era post '81 standards, She Was Hot might be considered "great", but that's not really saying much.

Yeah, Chuck had a lot of choruses like this one, right? smiling smiley

She was Hot is a clever and brilliantly produced tune, mixing that swing/roll with a killer chorus in minor chords. A unique thing in the Stones cannon.

And with one of Keith's best solos ever.

Yes, the riff is memorable. I remember it as Jumpin' Jack Flash.

I never liked it
The guitar sound is so bland - they don’t cut through. Similar riffs on ‘Fight’ are much more exciting because the guitars aren’t muffled like they are here. The vocal is distant too.
As Keith Richards described the making of Undercover, ‘we took turns to piss around with the tapes’ . ‘Too Tough’ seems to have suffered from that process. A weak track among many on a weak album. NME reviewed Undercover under the title ‘ this should be the last time‘ and Too Tough typified what was wrong with the record. A stones by numbers song played in a by numbers arrangement.
