Very sad...my older brother was into them big-time in the early '70s - always remember hearing their songs around the house when I was a little kid.

Man I hate to hear that, one of my first "45's", was "Joy to the World", which I know Chuck Negron sung lead on, but man they had/have a lot of Great Songs out there from there catalog, never saw them but was hoping the circuit they were on I was going to catch them close at some point.

Ah, too bad. They were a fantastic group back in the day. I was able to see them on several occasions in 1969, from a small club to the LA Forum, the concert that became Three Dog Night Captured Live at the Forum. They were actually support for Steppenwolf that night. I wanted to see their show a couple of months ago when they played right down the road from me, but it was sold out. Probably just as well.

RIP Cory Wells

They discovered many good songwriters like Randy Newman, Harry Nilsson, Elton John, Laura Nyro,
Paul Williams, Hoyt Axton, Dave Loggins and Leo Sayer.
Their taste was so good.

I heard it today while driving through Medina by the Erie Canal. They said he died at his home in Buffalo. Where did he live in Buffalo?

97 Rock (local radio station) made the announcement that I heard of Wells passing today. They claimed he was a very good friend of the station and played one song in his honor. Yet it is worth mentioning that some years ago, I called in a request for a Three Dog Night song to that same radio station and they told me that they would not play them as they were an oldies group. I was shocked at that response especially with a major founding member of the group from Buffalo. I have rarely heard them played on the show. A total bunch of hypocrites.

Dunkirk is in the Buffalo area. 35 minutes from where the Stones played this Summer.

And I agree with the Sicilian. The radio station will call people like Cory Wells, or the great indie rocker Willie Nile that are from Buffalo 'friends of the station' but in reality they play a narrow pre-programmed list of boring bullshit songs over and over. Why broadcast radio means nothing anymore. Dinosaurs going extinct.

The least respected group of all time!!! Fantastic singers and they were wise enough to choose top notch material. Hopefully Negron can make his peace with Wells.

Maybe I didn't have time to read it. So I assigned it to you. Good job.

They recently (a couple of weeks ago) cancelled a show near my home (GA National Fair in Perry, GA) and were replacecd by Grand Funk.

When I was a kid, they were contantly on the radio with excellent songs. A few I like: Pieces Of April, One Man Band, Till The World Ends, Liar, OUt In The Country, many more.....

Is there a decent list of who sang what songs for the band?

Sorry to hear this news. I remember as child of around 7 or 8 years old listening to the radio while Three Dog Night were in their heyday. Finally got to see them in 1981. Just 2 weeks ago I started playing them more than ever in the last 30 years or so. So this is really strange for me. Condolences to his family and close friends, and of course safe journey to him. R.I.P.

It's perhaps worth noting most of their 21 Top 40 Hits were covers (they were predominantly a covers band) and in so doing introduced mainstream audiences to the work of many songwriters.
