I think this programme is always pre-recorded and always very good.
A very short trailer here.

Keith did this years ago, i tapped it off the radio in about 83'
It was great song choices from him, i listened to them for years.
It will be interesting to see if he picks different songs this time.

Last time he chose song's like Take Another Piece Of MY Heart , What becomes of the broken hearted , If I Don't Have you by Gregory Issacs. Stuff like that

PS It might not have been Dessert Island disks but he did pick 10 songs including chuck berry and Ronnie Wood, I can feel the fire, if i remember correctly

Oh and a song from little Walter, the rest will come to me as the day comes on

Yes - I remember this. In fact I taped it and played it regularly. The other songs he picked were : Are You Lonely For Me Baby by Freddy Jackson, War in a Babylon by Max Romeo & the Upsetters, Money for Nothing by Dire Straits, What's Love Got To Do With It by Tina Turner.

The latter two were fairly modern by Keith's standards, and I remember thinking he had probably been asked to include a couple of contemporary songs. I think the Ronnie Wood song may have been Crotch Music rather than I Can Feel the Fire.

Have racked my brains, and I don't think there was a Chuck Berry song, which surprised me at the time. There was possibly and old country song or possibly Buddy Holly or Elvis but I can't be certain.

Not "Desert Island Discs" but "My Top Ten" a one hour programme on Radio 1 with Andy Peebles. It was originally broadcast on May 25 1986.

The songs he chose were:
1. Otis Redding - Try A Little Tenderness
2. Freddie Scott - Are You Lonely For Me Baby
3. Little Walter - Key To The Highway
4. Erma Franklin - Piece Of My Heart
5. Jimmy Ruffin - What Becomes Of The Broken Hearted
6. Max Romeo - War Ina Babylon
7. Dire Straits - Money For Nothing
8. Gregory Isaacs - If I Don't Have You
9. Tina Turner - What's Love Got To Do With It
10. Ron Wood - Crotch Music

You can download it here:

Link is good until October 31.

I have tried and failed to understand your statement, Big Al. What do you mean, please and thank you?

Not to speak for Big Al but I think he meant that the younger generation could give a toss about Desert Island Discs and BBC 4 in general.

My mother used to play Radio 4 in the car when I was a child. Whilst I would have preferred something more suited to my young ears, I was served with a dose of the dullest of the dull. The Archers and news. sssoul is very right regarding the younger generations' distain for Radio 4. However, Dessert Island Discs is OK and, well, as a thirty-something, I no-longer fit-in with the 'youngsters' In fact, Radio 4 is probably preferable to Radio 1 these days, which I cannot stand. I regret my original post, somewhat.

I owe it all to my mum’s impeccable taste in music says rocker Keith Richards

Observer article by Vanessa Thorpe on KR's DID.

SPOILER ALERT(Mild)
Mentions some of KR's choices and comments on DID later today.

Thanks for the link belubettlo.

Keith's choice of 'luxury' item for the island seems quite appropriate. thumbs up

Keith's book Dr Dogsbody

Luxury item a machete. He wanted to take a dog but that's against the rules!

The one track he'd save would be the Gregory Issacs number.

The part when Keith was talking about the death of Tara was very moving. You could feel the emotion in his voice.

Fantastic I almost shed a tear when he was talking about Tara and about his wife. Great music choices and very practical as well by choosing a machete as his luxury item. Once a Boy Scout always a Boy Scout.smoking smiley

Yes ! Loved his choice of music and the answers to the questions that Kirsty was asking Keith.

I listened to Charlies' DID earlier this morning, from many years ago for the first time, and loved that one as well.

A nice way to spend a Sunday morning. thumbs up

Great choice, and a very heart-warming interview.

I welled-up when he mentioned the bleed on the brain, as I had one back in February this year, and really empathised with him.

My mum used to have Radio 4 on too when I was younger, and for me it has good memories - of being a child, being cosy at home on Sundays with a nice dinner being made.

She's not a massive Stones fan but apparently enjoyed hearing Keith this morning. I haven't had a chance to listen yet so I'll check it out on the BBC website later.
