The Eagles, Aerosmith, Metallica, Van Halen, Journey, Alabama, Guns n' Roses, and Santana have sold more than Chicago.

The most underwhelming place I have ever gone. A music that (at least once) was anti-establishment gets a 'hall of fame' where we can see a suit that Elvis may have once worn...the great (and relatively unknown) Canadian band Spirit Of The West sums up the place perfectly in their song 'Enough Already Alright (Hello Cleveland):

"Don't smell like beer, no smoke in here
In a clean glass case, lie the artifacts of the famous face
That's Elvis Presley - that does distress me
Looks nothing like him, more like Chris Spedding who wrote "Motorbikin"

Hey, everythings not okay
'Cause nobody ever gets laid
In a glorifed Hard Rock Cafe
Oh and, hey, everything's not okay

I'll tell you what, what I don't think
I'll be writing home about a piece of the wall made out of styrofoam

Hey so this is Rock'n'Roll
Hey, Disco, Funk and Soul
Hey, you airbrush the moles
Punkrock, Slits and Buzzcocks

Hey, everythings not okay
'Cause nobody ever got laid
In a glorifed Hard Rock Cafe

Enough, already alright (alright)
With the uptight and the so polite
Where's the pleasure, where's the pain
Where's the scandal, where's the shame
Enough, already alright (alright)
With the uptight and the so polite
You've got no bark and no bite

Hello Cleveland's on the tip of my toungue
And they're handing out backstage passes for everyone

So this is Rock'n'Roll
Hey, Disco, Funk and Soul
Hey, you airbrush the moles
Punkrock, Slits and Buzzcocks

Hey, everythings not okay
'Cause nobody ever got laid
In a glorifed Hard Rock Cafe

Enough, already alright (alright)
With the uptight and the so polite
Where's the pleasure, where's the pain
Where's the scandal, where's the shame
Enough, already all right (alright)
With the uptight and the so polite
All those teeth so pearly white
Where is Freddy's overbite

Enough already alright (alright)
With the uptight and the so polite
Where's the drugs, the tits and ass
There behind the plexiglass
Enough already alright (alright)
With the uptight and the so polite
20 US for your rock'n'roll "lite"
Not a red snapper in sight
No it's not on the menu tonight
Just you and your rock'n'roll lite
You and your rock'n'roll lite

Enough already alright
Enough already alright
Yeah, enough already alright
Enough already alright

Its not that these people don't deserve it. Its that we don't have legends anymore. We don't have people like "oh, the Stones? Of course they should be in." Deep Purple is kind of, or at least should be like that, but everyone else is kind of debatable. There are bands I like I say shouldn't be in the Hall Of Fame. I love Jethro Tull or Joe Cocker or T Rex or Steve Miller. Do I think they should be in a Hall Of Fame? No, not really and I can answer that very quickly. And thats because I don't think they are the best of the best, even though I think they are better than others that have gone in like Madonna and Abba. But I still judge these acts on "are they Stones level? Did they REALLY change things? Have they made an impact, and more importantly did they have a good run of worthwhile material."

Should Jethro Tull really get in for Aqualung alone? My dad just say Vanilla Fudge should be in for their first record alone. Come on! These guys are fine, but they aren't the best of the best. If more people said "well yeah, Jethro Tull should be in cause Teacher is extraordinary" or "Stand Up is a phenomenal record" I would be more inclined. But no, most people don't know that, because Jethro Tull didn't make a big enough impact. I don't like Metallica, but I can't deny their impact and their sustained popularity. THEY deserve to be in. People like Jethro Tull that just happened to be around in a fruitful period of music don't automatically warrant an induction.

Thats just my two cents. My typical rant against the hall. What I'm saying is people that think this list is shit are right. Cause it really is barring a few examples. But thats because they've inducted too many people and all the worthy ones are kind of gone. Or they don't pick them. Dire Straits, never nominated. Maybe not the best band in the world, but unlike people like Tull, they made it to the @#$%& mountain with Brothers In Arms. They deserve some respect. They did what many other bands COULDN'T do. I'm sure people will disagree, but personally I think there's more of an argument band there than bands like Cheap Trick or Steve Miller Band, bands I like but I could argue are more a singles band than anything else.

A Hall of Fame for real would have only the following persons enrolled:

Elvis Presley
John Lennon
Bob Dylan
Keith Richards
Johnny Thunders

Jimi Hendrix
Frank Zappa
Tom Verlaine

Mick Jagger of course in Rockband Lead singers Hall of Fame with:

John Fogerty

If janet jackson gets milions of votes more than los lobos to enter in the rock and roll hall of fame means that or is not a rock and roll hall of fame but a normal music museum. In few years there will be more people in than out..

everyone wants to rip Chicago ,and I understand why, they warped into a elevator music band. but if u go back and listen to the original Chicago, they had chops. ive got Chicago live in japan around 71 or 72 it rocks terry kath needs to be recognized

NWA Like I said before quoting Gregg Allman, Rap is spelled with a silent "C".

This genre doesn't deserve to be in the R n R HOF. Let them talentless shits build there own place, to put this garbage....

I vote for Chicago too. Amazing band with the original line up.The first albums, Chicago Transit Authority, Chicago 2, Chicago 3 and Chicago 5 are super albums. Terry Kath is an amazing guitarist, The horns section is awesome, Cetera on Bass is also great. Lahm is a great singer and composer. Before i listened to their first albums i was always thinking of the Cetera ballads from the end 70s - early 80s. But those first albums are totally nothing like that. I think most people only know their ballads. I hope that they will get into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame!

Hall of FAME, people. Not "Hall of my personal favourites". That said Hall of fame is a joke. Deep purple still not in there also a joke. I mean, who doesn't know Smoke on the Water? And also, DP has existed as a band almost as long as the Stones. More changes in line up, though but still...

I think it's the "Rock and Roll" part not the "Fame" part that has caused most of the controversy. Don't worry Deep Purple will make the cut this year, along with Yes that will appease quite a few of the critics.

A museum for rock and roll acts. Isn't that everything rock and roll shouldn't be about?

yes. the whole thing is irrelevant. it's just a ploy to sell records, there is little taste or quality involved; much like the grammy awards.

Eddie Trunk (NYC radio personality) says Deep Purple is in from his various sources. About @#$%& time.

Also says he hears Cheap Trick should be too. Surprising if true. I didn't think they'd do both.

If those are true, and I'd have to guess Chicago as well unless there's a major miscommunication between Hall and fans (I know the fan vote means nothing, but they were the clear winner so it'd be weird if the Hall thought the exact opposite).

So calling it early Purple, Trick, Chicago and I guess 3 others I think is what it is. My picks would be Steve Miller, Yes and The Cars, but I doubt they'd do ALL the people I want. Yes deserve it as much as Purple.

Would agree Chicago was unique and put out some great rock music with Terry Kath. Just listen to Poem 58:

[youtu.be]

I think Yes and Deep Purple deserve it too.

Cheap Trick is very underrated, they're a great live band, Rick Nielson has written some very good music.

No real surprises, other than Cheap Trick (7th in the fan voting) getting in over Yes (2nd in the fan voting).
