A lot of great posts here on "amazing - classic albums", but the original post said where EVERY song is a masterpiece. Exile, London Calling and others listed are among my all time favorite albums and they flow as a perfect album, but not every song is a masterpiece. There are very few albums like that.
I would pick Sticky Fingers. Someone asked about Bowie and i'm a huge Bowie fan but the closest he comes to this would be Ziggy Stardust album. I'd also put in Quadrophenia and Dark Side Of The Moon. First Pretenders album is close as is the first Cars album........Any Dire Straits fan's out there? Brothers In Arms? Making Movies?

Crime of the Century by Supertramp should be mentioned too.
And does A Night at the Opera by Queen count as well?

Just as long as the guitar plays, let it steal your heart away

In that case we gotta add Steve Harley & The Cockney Rebels with their albums for the period 1973-1975:

The Human Menagerie
The Psychomodo
The best years of our lives

(I listened a lot to Steve, Supertramp and Queen those years..both live and on records)

The already mentioned Supertramp´s Crime Of The Century and Pink Floyd´s Animals are a very good choice. Marvelous albums both.
Springsteen´s Tunnel Of Love strikes me also from start to finish. His last great album, imo.

We've been debating the last classic Stones album, and someone made the comment that a classic album requires every song on the album be a classic. I tend to disagree...

...but it raises a question that I don't know has been debated here: albums from the rock'n'roll era where EVERY song is a classic/masterpiece.

I'll start off with a couple of ideas:

Springsteen - Born to Run
Stones - Sticky Fingers

I take the criterium to be every song a masterpiece rather than that much vaguer term "classic". Then the prime candidates to meet it from the Stones or the Beatles perhaps ought to be, not saying that the former necessarily is the best album of the Stones, STICKY FINGERS and REVOLVER. How much that I love and like STICKY FINGERS or John Lennon's four psychedelic songs (and really like so many other songs) on REVOLVER, I doubt that any song on those two albums may be seen as a masterpiece. And that was the proposed claim.

Without surveying other candidates, I suppose that albums, which should be evaluated to contain only masterpieces, are hard to find.

Doctor Robert and Dead Flowers aren't masterpieces, imo.

Yes they are hard to find.
Imo, one or two "stinkers" or average songs on an otherwise great album do no harm. The great songs even shine brighter.

An album containing only masterpieces can be boring in some way, because nothing stands out really... just a thought...

True. Such and album will work, though, if the flow is there and the collection is one with songs that go well together.

Those two songs were not even the songs that I had in mind.

In case, very few songs, for instance, on REVOLVER would be masterpieces, because at least "Doctor Robert" to me is one.

I think we should retitle this thread "Albums where EVERY song is great and three of them are a masterpiece". Otherwise it's going to dry up quickly as there isn't a single album ever released that matches this criteria...

As one of four songs of grand Beatles psychedelia.

I like both, for different reasons, but I must admit I think they both pale in comparison with their companion songs on those albums.

Doctor Robert, a masterpiece? Well, to each his own...
