The Outlaws "Green Grass and High Tides" is very good.

Don't know if 10 minutes or not, but Neil's "Like A Hurricane" is excellent.

Can't believe In A Gadda Davida hasn't been mentioned yet! A good song for DJ's to play late at night if they need a bathroom break!

How about Arlo Guthrie's "Alice's Restaurant Massacree"? My wife STILL doesn't quite understand why I insist on playing that song every Thanksgiving even after I've tried to explain it to her. Are there any Bostonians who can help me out with an explanation that has been effective for you?

I'll give an "Honorable Meantion" to Don McLean's "American Pie" yet as, to my surprise, it's actually not long enough to be included in this thread.

Peace,
Mr DJA

Yes alot of great ones on this thread!
First thought that came to my mind was Pink Floyd knowing knowing there was at least several that were over 10 minutes.
I also really like Dylan's Highlands which has been mentioned a couple times here...it's a journey in itself.
And Neil Young's Cowgirl in the San mentioned above by 2000man.

Little feat dixie chiken

Dixie Chicken is only about 4 minutes long.

The original: 3:55
Live on Waiting For Columbus: 9:00 (as part of a medley w/ Tripe Face Boogie: 16:02 total)
Live on Down Upon the Suwannee River: 27:22
Live on Rocky Mtn Jam: 21:03
Live on Live in Holland: 10:02
Live on Live From Neon Park: 17:28

Although you're 100% correct about the original definitely NOT being a "Long Song", I'd think that many Little Feat fans, even those of us who love the original, would consider it a "Long Song".

I must give you kudos for pointing out the discrepancy though... I'm laughing at myself for not thinking of it myself when I saw the original post as I instantly said, yup, that one's over 10 minutes. Hope no Feat diehards try to have me expelled over it!

Peace,
Mr DJA

We should probably be sticking to STUDIO songs, not live jams, correct?

I guess we could...

Sometimes though, the live cut develops an identity of it's own. Kinda like "Midnight Rambler" did when it was released on "Ya-Ya's" or Frampton's "Do You Feel Like We Do" did when released on "Frampton Comes Alive". Also, I think that a live version, released on a bands live album, kinda becomes it's own entity, making it a bit different than say, a 30 minute version of "Tumbling Dice" from a bootleg of studio jams.

I'll admit I really hadn't thought of the studio vs. live aspect or excluding long live songs before you brought it up... Thanks for making me think!

Judges?

Peace,
Mr DJA

EDIT: I just looked back at the rest of the thread and noticed that the original thread poster used a live Clapton/Winwood youtube recording as their example. I'd have to guess that, in their mind when starting the thread, anything goes... Others have also included bootleg studio jams (which I would tend to exclude). Any thing goes on the internet, right? At least until bv tells we've gone too far!
