Brian's missing show(s?) on the US tour 1966.

During the WTF's interview Keith mentions that Brian Jones didn't play on some of the US 1966 Tour live shows.I looked up in the James Karnback's Ultimate Guide and I see only 1 show missed by Brian on july 10th 1966 . Are there any pictures of the band on stage and recording of that show in Chicago. Also did Brian missed more than 1 show?

i wondered about that too. i think brian missed a bunch of shows in 64 or 65, entirely possible keith was confusing the tours. (or maybe he didn't specifically say the 66 tour...)

Yet he missed plenty after 1969.

This is one or two of Keiths comments about Brian. He stole Keiths chicken, he gave himself a little more when he was manager, he missed some shows before november 1964.

I would imagine the Paul Trynka book (not read yet) might have a figure.

I wonder how many recording sessions Keith missed in the 1970s?

Recording sessions don't have thousands of people waiting on you.

Did Keith say something in Life about Brian missing shows because he said he was sick, but then was found to be with Dylan in NYC? Something like that maybe?

TRYNKA -Page 221
One show missed on the last US tour, 1966
Total 12 shows missed out of 930, best estimate.

Did you go to that show his majesty or do you know somebody who went to? I thought that James Karnbach's book was a reliable source. I just would like to to know where you get that information that contradicts Barnbach'statement. Thank you.

Brian missed a series of shows on the second USA tour, November, 1964
This is about as unprofessional as you can get, I don't think Mick and Keith ever forgave him. Those guys were hungry and the band was still pretty much a second tier British Invasion band at the time.
Brian stayed in Chicago, not performing the following four dates (five shows):

8th November: Chicago, Chess Studios. Producer: Andrew Oldham. Sound Engineer: Ron Malo. WITH BRIAN
11th November: Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Auditorium (without BJ)
12th November: Fort Wayne, Indiana, Coliseum (without BJ)
13th November: Dayton, Ohio, Wampler's Hara Arena - (without BJ)
14th November: Louisville, Kentucky, Memorial Auditorium (1st show) -(without BJ)
14th November: Louisville, Kentucky, Memorial Auditorium (2nd show) -(without BJ)
15th November: Chicago, Illinois, Arie Crown Theatre BRIAN'S BACK

I live near Dayton, and years ago a local news reporter told me that the Dayton, Ohio, promoter threatened to sue the band and Oldham cut a deal to keep it out of the courts.
Andrew agreed to give the promoter another show, this time with 5 musicians on stage as the contract called for.
Sure enough, the following year, the Stones played Hara Arena in Dayton, Ohio, again....by this time the band was huge (Satisfaction, etc) but the little old hockey arena got the Stones again, but only for a shortened Saturday afternoon matinee.
The band did a quick set and then piled into their station wagons and drove the 45 minute trip down Interstate 75 and played the much larger venue, the Cincinnati Gardens, that evening.
But the agreement to return as a quintet to Hara Arena was fulfilled.

27th November: Dayton, Ohio, Wampler's Hara Arena
27th November: Cincinatti, Ohio, Gardens

Thanks to Nico Zentgraf for the research

^^ He was ill, hospitalised... Please note, they had to cancel some gigs in December 1964 due to the whole band being ill/exhausted as well. Keith collapsed... so unprofessional! eye rolling smiley

Do we know the story about him skipping the hospital and partying on his own while the tour went on is apocryphal?

I have asthma and can sympathize with the guy. It usually doesn't require days of hospitalization though. You get treated until your attack passes.

I always thought Brian was blowing off some of the pissant American cities, returning when they played Chicago. I imagined that enraged the rest of the band.

So, are there any evidence on Brian not turning up for 1966 gigs?

Ages ago I looked in to this, I think I used Bill's Stone Alone and the Brian Jones Censored From Our Minds forum as starting points and sought out info, reviews, pics etc for other claims of missed concerts.

I found an old post of mine...

"Between 1962 - 1967 Brian missed 13 out of approximatley 1023 gigs. All missed gigs were during the years 1963 - 1964.

Every missed gig was for legitimate reasons."

If I remember right, I either found info/pics which debunked claims of other missed concerts or found info from alledged missed gig dates which didn't mention that Brian was missing.

There were some concerts which were cancelled, but this was not specifically due to Brian.

Why do Karnbach claim that Brian missed the July 10th 1966 gig? Is there any doubt about him making it, or is it just a mistake?

The Dayton show without Brian in '64 yielded a lot of mean and condescending reviews.
I just stumbled across these accounts which have cool pics and entire articles from the original newspaper layouts you can blow up with a click.

Dayton News just came out with the retrospective deets in an article today:

also this. Hope you enjoy. I first saw them on TV in '64 and was immediately captured. Also if you blow up their pic of Keith, you can clearly see a fan close-up totally fascinated with him.
