Down In The Hole was their best blues since the 60s, imo.

Dance (Pt. 1) ==> OK, BUT FORGETTABLE
Summer Romance ==> FILLER
Send It to Me ==> SILLY
Let Me Go ==> OK, BUT FORGETTABLE
Indian Girl ==> GOOD (yes, I am serious)
Where the Boys Go ==> FILLER
Down in the Hole ==> GOOD
Emotional Rescue ==> VERY GOOD
She's So Cold ==> VERY GOOD
All About You ==> GOOD

Put half of Emotional Rescue together with half of Undercover, and you would have a very good album.

Whether you like Where The Boys Go or not is okay, but it can never be filler. it's far to noticable and energetic to be that smiling smiley

I love this album so much .With the opening track of dance (part 1) moving to the triple punch of summer romance great Stones rocker and such fun lyrics to the infectious reggae groove of send it to me to the over the top funny lyrics of let me go (which by the way when the Stones performed it live on the 1981 USA tour a certain part of the lyrics was omitted probably one of the earliest examples of political corectness). Did not care for Indian girl.On to side two of the album ,where the boys go , another funny song with a hell of a good uptempo groove which i really love to one of the finest examples of why the Glimmer Twins totally rock out on the blues with the best of them Down in the hole with such great harp by none other than Sugar Blue to the twin blast of Keith and Ronnie guitars weaving so well .What else can i say about the title track emotional rescue that has not been said already by many .Next one of my favorites on the album she's so cold ,great lyrics great guitars a fine example of the power and greatness of the Glimmers to rock out like no one else and finally the very poignant All About You one of Keith's finest .Did i say i really love this album ? I really do !!!!!!!!!

I know there have been large discussions about the definition of "filler" on IORR. For me, "filler" is a song that lacks any sort of creativity and sounds if it's made by just putting the obvious chords together and shout something meaningless on top of it and it's made in less than 2 minutes without even trying to give it some special twist or hook or melody. Whether it's played fast or slow depends on the fashion.
I don't think Where The Boys Go is noticeable, I actually always mix it up with Summer Romance, and I also don't think it's energetic, just boring.

Great album. This is the one that got me hooked on the Stones, so it will always be special to me. Dance is superb. Only wished they'd toured behind it. Shame we never got Where The Boys Go, Down In The Hole, Summer Romance and Send it to Me live. Maybe in 2016??

Pete.

We were close getting it on SNL as well as on the 1981/82 tour... (the 5:00 mark).

The first rather weak album since 1967. It appears like a compilation without the right tension and momentum. Okay, there are some highlights that I won't miss: Let Me Go, Where the Boys Go and Summer Romance. On the other side Emotional Rescue (the song) and Indian Girl are candidates for the weakest tracks the Stones ever made. The rest is average.

I just witnessed one the greatest videos ever posted. Mick is a better guitarist than previously thought. Thanks -that was awesome and is worthy of a "Sticky" label.

'All About You'
is my current vote for Keith's best. Really. #1 slot right now for his best track.

'Indian girl, where is your mama?'
I wish the lyrics were better, because by God the music is beautiful.
I've never, ever critiqued Jagger's accents.
I'm gonna have to here.
But the gorgeous acoustics, mmmm, love the music itself on this song. But when it's in my head later, I'm singing 'where is your mama?' Give me something better to be sayin'.

Emotional definitely has a special place for me ... it was the first time, after becoming a huge Stones fan, that I got to experience a new album's release!

I love the album but still rank it far below Some Girls. I love hard driving bass songs, like Slave on Tattoo, and similarly with Dance on this one. The 'punk' rockers are all kick-ass, but not quite up to par w/ those on SG, especially in the lyric department. Similarly, Emotion Rescue is not on par w/ Miss You as the disco track.

I love Send It, but it may rank as the bottom of my list of Stones reggae'ish tracks. I also love the much hated Indian Girl ... I think it's a beautiful piece of music!

Down In the Hole is just fantastic blues. All About You ... like Before They Make Me Run and Coming Down Again, what a showcase for Keith's amazing vocals!

And last but not least ... She's So Cold! I was blown away by this one back in the day! I don't play it too much now but that's probably because I played it over 1000 times back then!

I love it; just such an infectious album with wonderful replay value. The genre hopping from funk, to disco, to new wave, to blues, to reggae, to rock'n'roll, and to perhaps the best of them all, Keef's jazzy and sublime 'All About You'.

It's not as celebrated or even as good as 'Some Girls' before it or 'Tattoo You' after it, but in itself it's a cracking collection. Not a big statement from the band, like 'Some Girls' was, but these tracks are just so well written and catchy. Even just to choose my favourite five from the album - Down in the Hole, All About You, Dance, She's So Cold, and Emotional Rescue - quite a collection of quality material.

The sessions produced some other good songs; as a whole, ER isn't on par with it's more illustrious surrounding albums, but I love it all the same and feel the catalogue would be poorer without it.
