...why not another producer?

The last thing the stones need is for the neo-vintage guys like Jack White to produce them. They would just try and make the stones in to something they aren't, which is the stones circa 1972.

I don't think anyone could or has really produced them post Exile. With or without Jimmy miller they could do no wrong really during 1968 - 1972 because the songs, the playing and right supporting musicians were all there.

The tip of the hat has to go to the creativity and focus of intent from Jagger & Richards for that really, but their relationship at the time was also key. Sadly, it seems they simply aren't on that kind of shared wavelength anymore.

Yah never know though, Keith's solo album might act as a catalyst for something special or surprising in the future.

Steve Lillywhite would be the best guy for this job.

Daniel Lanois would be ideal as Stones producer.
Just listen to Emmylou Harris's Wrecking Ball or Dylan's Oh Mercy.
He creates a very moody feel and might give The Stones the kick they may need.
His solo work is not shabby either.

bad idea.

Daniel Lanois has a signature sound. Everyone he produces sounds the same.
He is also way too old school for my taste.

Bring back the Dust Brothers or whatever kids are hip right now.

Christ, no! They ruined a perfectly good blues on B2B thumbs down

The only songs worth listening to on B2B are Flip the switch, Anybody seen my baby, Saint of me, all produced by the Dust Brothers.

The 2 Keith songs at the end are great too, though.

Let's face it, they are on the home-stretch now. Just stay alive and collect the money. That's all we can ask from them.

LOL. As one of the only people on this site who like Dirty Work you would say that. But I actually love some of the other records he has produced, I guess it all depends on the material he has to work with.

It would be cool if they got a different producer for every song! Everybody could have a chance to work withe the Stones and with only one track to produce they would surely give it all they had. All the producers listed in this thread could be included and it would be very interesting to see what they could coax from the Stones and it would highlight each producers talents. Give us a better understanding of what a producer actually does for a well established band like the Stones.

I would vote for Steve Albini. Plus as he doesn't demand a % on record sales but a (small) fixed fee, Mick would probably find him very interesting.

Can't remember to hear any complaints from you so far about the drum sound winking smiley

It's not mixed yet, though..

BTW, there is a difference between drum sound and the drum VOLUME. The latter could have been adjusted a bit on Keith's albums, but I think Jordan is lower in the mix on Crosseyed Heart.

You know I was just kidding my friend. I think both drum and guitar sounds on stuff I've heard so far are great. And you are of course right about the drum volume, but I'm still not a big fan of his sound either, the volume is just part of the equation.

I've been listening to a lot of Daniel Lanois produced records lately.. I would love to hear a Stones album produced by him.. I mean what's the point of another Don Was production.. we walked that road before and we know it'll lead us nowhere
