I'm sure I spotted a new Frank thread last night, in connection with the current TV series (4 part documentaries).
Now I can't find it....

Well, Frank was known to be a control freak, so perhaps he is somehow managing to exert his influence from the grave.

Frank was rock and roll.

Did they use "old frank" or "young frank's" voice?

Frank probably recorded more than 1000 songs, and with only one klunker:

Old McDonald Had a @#$%& Farm...and even that one is fabolous..

Why was the Sinatra thread deleted?

Re: OT:Frank Sinatra

Maybe because he once made some silly comments on the Stones´ hairdo in the 60s - or was it actually Dean Martin, cant remember... Sinatra surely was no Stones-fan... he has recorded two Beatles-songs.grinning smiley

Wow, and someone was so sensitive and hurt by his comments that he asked bv to delete the discussion? Damn. That's ridiculous.

I believe he and Dean Martin felt seriously threatened by the Stones..

Dean Martin couldn't have been ruder..

but his daughter apparently liked the band, or at least one of them..

Who cares if Dean Martin was rude to the Stones.
Some people take being a Stones fan wayyyyyyyyy too seriously.

that he was rude wasn't my point, that they ( "Rat Pack" guys) felt that their careers were threatened was.

Considering their audiences were completely different and of different generations I seriously doubt that was the case, but who knows?

They helped each other. One generation rebelling against another, the older generation sneering at the younger. They all milked it for everything they could.

WHAT A SHAME that a beautiful piece of writing (by Andrew Oldham) has been
deleted.

In 1965 Andrew and Keith were guests at a Frank Sinatra recording session...

Apparently the Haters are at it again.

I guess the original Frank Sinatra thread got deleted. Not sure why, perhaps too OT or maybe someone was offended confused smiley. But I guess ya can't keep a good man down. I thought the story about Keith watching Frank record was fascinating.

When I was younger, this music, and music like it, was 'old people' music.
I didn't get it. I loved watching those old movies and loved the music because it is of its time, but didn't 'get' actually listening to the msuic for anything other than background or whatever.
Sometime in 1995, I got hooked on Sinatra and Ella and that whole genre of the 'American Songbook'. I finally understood why that generation hated rock and roll. There is an elegance and grace to Sinatra's delivery, and a heart and soul. Its timeless. And yes, Frank was a rock star.

Look at it from Dean & Frank's viewpoint. They were big stuff in the early 60s, with the Rat Pack and recordings and movies. Suddenly the Beatles take all the oxygen out of the room, quickly followed by the rest of the British Invasion. Frank was getting light on the hits around that time. Dean became an even bigger recording star. I think the significance of the Stones music eluded them. They lumped all those groups into some kind of novelty act that would blow away. The great thing is to be able to appreciate Frank, Dean, Bobby Darin, and the Beatles and The Rolling Stones.

Would rather travel back in time to see the Stones in a 1962-club-performance than these drunky, chauvinistic Rat-Pack-guys in their smokings telling cheap and more often than not racist jokes before an audience of Hollywood moguls, starlets, bankers, mobsters & gamblers.
