Too Much Blood is the only weak spot on Undercover, but I can live with it. Aaaah... Undercover, what a great album!

The melody is good though.

Shamed for no good reason:

Winning Ugly
Indian Girl
Sweethearts Together
Heaven (I am not sure it's shamed that much, but I think I saw some negative comments about it recently)

Inexplicably Put on a Pedestal:

Had It With You
Wandering Spirit (solo album Jagger)
Plundered My Soul

Kind of similar to overrated/underrated, I'll admit. There are the usual suspects like Streets of Love or Indian Girl, where I see some reasoning is involved, even if I disagree, but sometimes the musical tastes within the Stones canon by the folks here leave me scratching my head. I'll confine myself to songs done by the current band lineup (Black and Blue to now) to minimize "personnel selection bias".

Shamed for no good reason:

Fool to Cry
Lies
Hot Stuff
Infamy
Shattered
Brand New Car
Hang Fire
She Saw Me Coming

Inexplicably Put on a Pedestal:

Terrifying
Harlem Shuffle
Sex Drive
This Place is Empty
Rain Fall Down
Laugh, I Nearly Died

I agree about the shamed ones. However, I think I'm one of the very few here who loves Terrifying smiling smiley

And what's not to like with This Place Is Empty?

OK, agree with your assertion on Terrifying Dandy, but seriously you must already know the "bare your breasts and make me feel at home" line is hurlworthy enough to ruin the entire song.

I don't want to cast aspersions, just stating the facts.

I like Indian Girl, and people always use it as an exemplar of a bad Stones song on here.

Now I like "Indian Girl" very much too but when I first listen to it in 1979. I thought it was the worst song of the LP. At the opposite on the same record, I can now hardly listen to "All about you"

Shamed for EXCELLENT reason!
Rock And A Hard Place
Winning Ugly
Back To Zero
DIRTY WORK
Sweet Neo Con
Streets Of Love
Following The River
Angie
Keys To Your Love
Stealing Your Heart - or whatever it's called

Did I mention Rock And A Hard Place? What about DIRTY WORK. Yeah... shit, awful. Horrible cover for one of if not the worst albums ever made in the history of music.

Lady Di fans perhaps unjustly vilify 'Blinded By Love' but I would like to see regular fans really stomp on this one too because the only worse song in the Stones canon is 'New Faces.'

One song that rarely gets praised is the delightful 'If You Let Me.' Its relegation to Metamorphosis has doomed it to be labelled forgettable but this little ditty features some lovely acoustic and a profound message.I mean, Mick speaks for all men when he coos
'You can get me
If you let me, oh yeah'

I also wanna praise the English for their audacity in rhyming 'thought' with 'short.' Good show!

I still think "Angie" is a very good song.

Yes, it's been overplayed over the years.
Sometimes just listening to a different version, such as a live track, gives me a new
take on it.

Whereas I agree with most of your "shamed for excellent reasons" list, I cannot help (although it's a useless thing to do, as I am very well aware) trying to defend:
1) Rock And A Hard Place. Yes, it's Soul Survivor revisited, and, yes, the verses are a bit weak, guitar- and melodywise, but it still has some build-up and a powerful bridge. At least it's a better Soul-Survivor-revisited than Must Be Hell, can we agree on that?
2) Winning Ugly. Yes, it smells of 80's pop with 80's keyboards and 80's drums and an 80's bass. But the guitar licks are rather groovy, the bassline could sound great if differently produced, and the melody isn't that bad. You sort of have to listen to this song not for what is, but imagining what it could have been. Or just imagine it was made by Wham, and you'd think: not bad at all...., for Wham.
3) Angie???

The rest on your list are indeed obvious examples of very much shameworthy.

I love a good sport. However, no. It Must Be Hell is miles above RAAHP. IMBH doesn't try to be something it's not, unlike RAAHP. Also Mick's singing on RAAHP is horrendous.

You are right about the bridge though, the Stones seem to do good bridges.

What if Let's Work had groovy guitar licks in it? It's still a shit song that sounds like shit. If one has to put that much work into listening to a song to imagine what it could have been while listening to it... that's just cutting the bottom off to add to the top to say it's longer.

I've grown to despise Angie. I know it's a good song ie not filler like, oh, HMS would say simply because he doesn't like something. I just can't stand it. Probably because it's played so much on the radio.

A duel between Angie and Streets Of Love? Angie all the way.

All About You is genius.

I like Indian Girl but I get why people can't stand it. I wonder, if it was called something else with different lyrics, would it still be a bad song?

ONNYA & HIWY at least by mesmiling smiley

Rock And A Hard Place I really can´t stand. It is completely overproduced, has a dozen keyboards and a hundred-piece horn section plus hundreds of background singers. Maybe the song isn´t that bad at all, but the production is. Would be interesting to hear a stripped-down version of it.

Winning ugly is a killer-song with a modern touch but still "stonesy". Listen closely and carefully, maybe finally some of you dig it.smiling smiley

I don't think it's been overplayed live, at least it certainly wasn't on these last few tours. I love the song, but I usually only play it when I'm by myself. The kids complain that it's too depressing.
