Here's my contention, that "Lies" is the only unfamiliar song, all the rest are/have been utilized in concert since. I've looked at Beggars, Sticky, EOMS (My personal favorite) and as much as i'd like too, i don't see anything to beat it

TATTOO YOU.

Respectable and Imagination are the weakest tracks on SOME GIRLS.

I have a very soft spot for "Some Girls" because it was my first Stones LP. It was a revelation for this till then disco-mad teenager brought up in a Beatles and Merseybeat household. Never deviated from Stones love since then. But firmly in the LIB camp if I could only own one LP or have to recommend one as the best intro to my heroes.

Haha, great, lets rename it. More bland than black perhaps.

No, it's not. But maybe the best post 1972 album. In contention with Tattoo You. SG has more hits than TY but sounds dated (the sound) when listening to it.
TY has the monsterhit (SMU) and a better sound production than SG.

SOME GIRLS is a great moment, their ode to NYC, with great songs indeed. Perhaps the success of Miss You has tainted the album experience - why listen to Miss You again? It is pretty damn good. Beast Of Burden gets played daily on radio stations across the US, which Mick didn't want on the album. Shattered is my favorite track on the LP, followed by Lies and When The Whip Comes Down.

But the sound of the album makes it difficult to listen to. It doesn't have any bottom to it. They recorded over 40 songs for it yet put a cover on it. It's weird what they left off that was fantastic. A great LP indeed but not their best.

That's a teeter-tottering battle between LET IT BLEED and STICKY FINGERS for me.

My Favorite is Beggars Banquet because that's when Keith and Mick starting to mature as musicians and writers.

I would say if you include the bonus songs from Some Girls and that could of been
a double album and up their with exile.

The bonus some girls CD and Blue and Lonesome and Cross Eyed Heart are the albums
I listen these days for the Ron Wood Era.

Let it bleed, beggars banquet, exile, sticky fingers, black n blue, blue n lonesome, goats head soup and only Rnr, do it for me.

dont forget metamorhosis.

Or a Status Quo-forum, where people claim that the band is better than ever – with only Rossi left of the original or the classic lineup winking smiley

The best of Ron Wood-Era, which of course is not the best era, but nowadays the only one we have.

Some Girls may not be their 'greatest ' album. But, to me, it sure is the most fun and live-sounding.

All these songs- every one of them, sound great live. And there is so much humor, starting with the album artwork.

The song 'Some Girls' is one big snarling joke. So is 'Respectable'. I mean that as a compliment, the lyrics are full of silly but witty rhymes, and topical commentary.

My favorite, 'Before They Make Me Run", is maybe Keith's last great vocal performance. What a song.

Is that on the extra SG disc? I can't remember it's been released so many times. I think I thought it was, hence not mentioning it.

Would have been a cool double album - Exiles on 5th Avenue

Some Girls is great from start to finish, but far from the all time greatest album - I'd say in the top five or six though.
As a 15 year old at the time of it's release it became integral to the soundtrack for the summer of '78.
While ER as a follow up was a bit of a letdown, Tattoo You made a similar impact as Some Girls in the months after it was released.
No Stones album since has had the same overall effect, but Crosseyed Heart definitely came close.

As of this minute:
Exile
Beggars
Let it Bleed
Sticky
Some Girls/Tattoo You for the tie.

not at all. never liked the production. good songwriting, but nahh. would rate it behind the big4, aftermath, GHS, ER, Tattoo You and B&B.

Fantastic! I was beginning to think that GasLightStreet's compilation would have been a legitimate follow-up to Exile and you came up with the perfect title!

STICKY FINGERS could've easily been, had they finished the tracks, a double seeing that a decent portion of EXILE's tracks were recorded for SF.

If you look at what was recorded for LET IT BLEED that went on STICKY FINGERS, regardless of completion sans any acoustic versions that were basically demos, like All Down The Line, it would be:

So Devine
Shine A Light
Sister Morphine
Let It Loose
Loving Cup

Of course, as we know about some of those, they weren't exactly finished the way we know them.

Recorded for STICKY FINGERS
All Down The Line
Shake Your Hips
Stop Breaking Down
Sweet Virginia
Sweet Black Angel

Tumbling Dice was supposedly recorded for SF, started as Good Time Women as we know, and from what I've read in places, the LP version was tracked at Mick's home and there's no record of it being tracked in France according to [www.nzentgraf.de] but tracked or most likely finished in Los Angeles at the end of 1971.

They also tracked Hide Your Love and Silver train for SF!

The big 4 are interchangeable, ultimately I would go w/ Exile myself. But to me, clearly after those is Some Girls!

good album but production is not so good, so it could have been better but i can think of about 50 or 60 songs from the mid 60,s alone that are way better than some girls best songs.
