There is no best guitar solo ever but this Dutch player does a great job. Eef Albers, one of Holland's finest guitarists.

Yep, Eef Albers replaced Akkerman after Jan left focus. I didn't last very long.

Interesting bit of trivia and quite coincidental as I'd never heard of Eef Albers before your post.
Thanks for the video and the info., as I'll dig a bit deeper now into the music of Eef!

honestly, I wouldn't listen to that every day. The guitarist is very good but the singing is awful.

Steven Drodz "Feeling Yourself Disintegrate" from summer 2014. Not flashy but very emotional.

Well you've got to give a nod to Neil Young for his one note approach to soloing in "Down By The River". Certainly a contender for the most said with the fewest notes. grinning smiley

1974 - 1978 there was the so-called German Wunderkind Michael Schenker playing one hell of a guitar on 4 studio albums by UFO (Phenomeneon, Force It, No Heavy Petting, Lights Out) and one hell of a live album (Strngers in The Night).
E.g. try Rock Bottom, Out In The Streets, I´m a Loser, Try Me, Lights Out, Too Hot To Handle, Love To Love and many more

Funny enough, most of the solos mentioned here are from the 60ies and 70ies.
So I must post something contemporary.
Kenny Wayne Shepherd is a very good guitar player.
Listen to Never Looking Back and Heat Of The Sun from his album How I Go.

by the way, what is your definition of a good solo ?
to me a good solo is able to mix feeling and technique.
that's why I think Mick Taylor is one of the best lead guitarists

Yeah, it needs to be Clapton with Cream. Sitting on top of the world in studio is also great. Crossroads and Sunshine of your love (live) are amazing.

DandelionP,
I like the style of Lars Haavard, very subtle one, melodic and a bit technical

Yeah, he's good. This is his solo stuff, but he plays in a norwegian "americana" band called Hellbillies. They're huge over here.

Feeling, phrasing, expression, attitude, tone and individuality are far more important than technique.

Mick Taylor is indeed a great solo guitarist.

But I don't agree that you need an ounce of technique to play a great, great guitar solo.

Listen to SFTD. A child could have adapted that level of technique in an instant. Still, it is hailed (by Stones fans AND musicians in general) as one of the great guitar solos in rock history.

It needs to be effective, imo, and it needs to hit you. Aimless noodling, no matter how much technical skills, prowess or feel, doesn't necessarily do that.

My favourite Taylor solo is All Down The Line. It hits me every time thumbs up

yes I agree with you and DandelionP, technique is not the most important value.
Yet technique brings something more, especially when you play a bit guitar, you can appreciate the "risk" taken by the guitarist and thus be more or less impressed.
