Completley agree just crap, there were allot of boos heard in Oakland for the NS tour
> Pearl Jam - boring

Disagree with this one, I am not a big PJ fan but I thought they played pretty well when I saw the open in 97
> S. Crow - ugghhh...sooooooo boring
agree

I will add some others

Seal- completley ignored by 90% of crowd

Guns and Roses- they were the one opening band I was excited about seeing before a Stones concert, well they were absolute crap!! terrible!

Tim Burgess- I thibk he would have been ok in very small venue but at the MEN arena in Manchester he was boring

Stevie Wonder - Great

NY Steel Drums - horrible

Foreigner - Fantastic

Lenny Kravitz - tolerable

Blues Traveler - I like Big John, wish he'd do a cover of MR

Goo Goo Dolls - Ugh

Pretenders - highlight was John McEnroe as guest guitarist (boring)

Joss Stone - I'll pass

Of course no one likes almost any of the support-acts, cause everybody is waiting for the Stones... We don't need no other band on stage. The music played before the show is great to get in the mood so to speak, but another live band on the stage of the Stones?

Blind Melon--BORING!!

Kenny Wayne Shepherd--OK

Pretenders--OK

Lifehouse--Boring

When I'm at a Stones show, I'm there to see the Stones, so I'm always very impatient with the opening act. So I doubt there'd be any I'd like before a Stones show anyway.

Screamin Jay Hawkins - should have enjoyed it more, but i was too young (14) to appreciate him

Living Colour - first time they were booed off the sage, the second time they encores with Johnny B Goode and go the crowd back on their side

Counting Crows - they were listenable for the one song they had worth listening to

Foo Fighters - drank my beer, didnt pay attention

Fiona Apple - suprisingly good, didnt know much about her, but she was not bad at all

Pretenders - enjoyed their greatest hits and it was kind of cool to have McEnroe join them

Johnny Lang - If i went to Roseland to enjoy a few beers and listen to Johhny Lang, I am sure he would be a great show, but after waiting in line for hours, sitting on a crowded floor for another hour plus and then having to listen to an opening band...not what i wanted to hear. I remember when he said he was going to play just one more song, i got pretty excited...then he played a 15 minute jam, ugh!

Ryan Adams - who? i tried to be late and still caught most of his show

I think i am forgetting a couple, but i guess that means they were not too memorable

And that's another thing, every time i try to go in late, it seems that the opening band starts late. This year, please dont feel the need to wait for me

Living Colour - good
Guns N Roses - good
Buddy Guy - good
Red Hot Chili Peppers - good
Blues Traveler - boring
Wallflowers - boring
Santana - parking lot
Bryan Adams - okay
Sugar Ray - boring, spent most of the time wandering the concourse
Sheryl Crow - boring
Solomon Burke - great
Susan Tedeschi - good

george Thorogood - excellent
J Geils - very good
Gun - tiresome
Dan reed Network - 1 good song.
Bon Jovi - unspeakable..should have been taken out and shot.
Black Crows - terrible. The rain at Wembley made them finish early and it was the biggest cheer of their set. The new Rolling Stones? You must be kidding.
Goo Goo Dolls - I was in the Hartford Brewery and missed them
Sheryl Crow ('99 and '02) - most enjoyable
Pretenders - missed them entirely at MSG and caught only the last 2 songs at Giants due to pre-show partying
The Thrills - (Astoria/Dublin #2) pretty good, although dont stand up to repeated listening on thetwo occasions I've seen them as support acts since.
Cooper Temple Clause (Dublin #1)- unlistenable. What prick gave them a record contract?

I cant remember who did the other UK '03 shows (guess that speaks volumes). The band at Twickenham #1 wasnt bad but forgettable. Was that Idlewild? I thankfully missed the Darkness on 15.9.03. None of the others stood out

Conclusion - the bands are mostly getting worse with each succeeding tour, but at the same time we're all getting older. The two may be linked.

My favorite was Memphis 1975. The Meters, The Charlie Daniels Band (beleive it or not they weren't bad!), J. Geils Band!

I am looking forward to Wilco in Atlanta this year! Luck of the draw?

While I won't go as far as to say the Black Eyed Peas are good musicians,I can say they are definitely entertaining.I believe they were a good choice to keep people amused before the Stones.Metallica is not my favorite group but they are just about the best heavy metal band going or they were anyway.

I was a youthful 17 on the '72 tour. Jagger was the consummate performer back then. Don't get me wrong, he's still he best frontman out there, but he has slowed down over the years. BTW...it cost a whopping $7.50 to see them at MSG in '72!

Living Colour was ok (liked Cult of Personality, Glamour Boys and they did a smoking cover of Should I Stay or Should I Go)

Stone Temple Pilots kicked ass -- easily the best opening act for the Stones that I have seen

Wide Mouth Mason kind of sucked

Missed No Doubt's set completely (damn TTC -- was looking forward to ogling Gwen Stefani)

This year I've got: Les Trois Accord (never heard of them), Our Lady Peace (not that excited), Beck (should be interesting).

Anyone know who is opening in Montreal???

Black Uhuru - were excellent in the pouring rain in 82 at Wembley
J Geils Band - Dreadful same gig
Dan reed network - anonymous in 89
Sheryl Crow - very good 99
Thrills - very good 03
Feeder - My kid liked them 03
the scottish band who supported them in 95 were so bland I've forgotten the name

Since 81 they did not bring any good support bands in Europe. I think it has also to do that they do not get much credits from the mixing side which tends to be unfair.
The Meters in 76 were special and J. Geils Band in 81.
To me it seems that supports get less and less attention as most of the people today can't even concentrate two hours in a concert. They have to make silly phone calls talk nonsense to the collaegue.
I miss the agility of the fans from the seventies and early eighties. But it seems that we are a bit tired and are young ones are bored in luxury.
a bit sad

I still say billy preston was the best support act in 73, probably j geils band coming in second.

as stated before were all waiting for the greatest rock & roll group in the world to come on and cant be arsed for the support act imho, but they do tend to pick some crap acts over the years, perhaps a top reggae band could add to the atmosphere?.

good support on '03 Euro tour:-

Pretenders (Barcelona)
The Hives (Stockholm)
Primal Scream (Twickers #2)
Tim Burgess (Wembley)

average:-

Feeder (Wembley)

Piss Poor:-

Lovebugs (Zurich)
Starsailor (Twickers #1)

Black crows - shite WEMBLEY VOODOO I THINK
J Geils - ok WEMBLEY 82
Black Uhuru - great - also at Wembley 82
Darkness - crap - Wembley arena licks
Sheryl Crow - ok I guess B2B
Starsailor - crap

I dont really know why they bother with a support act at all, the Darkness had the number 1 album when they opened and were at the top of the hype pile, but nobody was really interested.

I agree....the Stones don't need a support band.
The fans don't need "warming-up".

It's good kudos and p.r for the support band, and in some cases, probably
gives them a career leg-up... so it doesn't bother me that much.

I'd love to see afew of my favourite bands, supporting The Stones,
in Europe , next summer.

The White Stripes
Arcade Fire
Black Rebel Motorcycle Club
Wilco
Pixies

...would be my "dream" support acts, for Euro '06.

Jet were good on the Aussie leg of Licks - Tex Perkins and his jerkoff band in Aussie / Voodoo Lounge were @#$%& oxygen thieves

I'm a necessary talent behind ev'ry rock and roll band
I'm sharp...

Foreigner - Yuck
Kansas - Really bad
Peter Tosh - entertaining
Living Color - so so
Lenny Kravitz - boring
Ryan Adams - OK
Pretenders - very good
The Strokes - like the band, but horrible sound
White Stripes - very good

Have missed the others (I'm also a big "at the bar" type). The opening band is a good time to make sure your bladder is as empty as possible. For me, the openers have definitely gone from awful (78 shows) to good (Licks).
